Dieting

Ok you can flare this post if you want, both me and my mate go to gym together. I eat most probably a bit less then him but alot more heathier and he eats junk and he is putting on alot more mass..... i am a 17 year old should i not be to strict on my diet and bulk away with anything? because i am a ectomorph all the fatty stuff doesn't seem to take an effect on me especially with me doing cardio activities aswell?

my diet consists of stuff like oats (not flavoured) tuna fruit vegies etc...

He eats ..... Like Nutrigrain and drinks milo and salted peanuts.. aswell as some of the good foods like tuna etc

when i see this is kinda disappoints me, i am starting to think my metabolism is fast and i should eat anything in my fridge i can get my hands on along as it has some sought of protein and other good vitamins.

Also is it true if your fat its easier to build muscle?

Try eat less clean and find out. Remember, though, that looking good does not equate to healthy.

Your predisposition to gain muscle is based mostly on your genetics. Think of it like you and your partner are filling a wading pool with buckets of water. You both can eventually have a full pool, but if he's got a bigger bucket (better genetics), its gonna happen faster for him. That said, I've heard from reliable sources (but have not read hard research) that being around a slightly low to average BF% (8-14%) is most condusive to building muscle.

don't get me wrong i am happy with all my gains so far, i went from skinny man to something half adequate. also yeah genetics does take a roll of the dice in this aswell.
i am going to def give it a shot with eating a bit unhealthy, but not to a stupid state of eating chocolate and stuff... because i think if i keep this healthy diet up you might be able to see through me within a couple weeks.

when i was a youth i'd eat anything to gain mass as i needed lots of calouries to build a big frame.
Keep eating healthy but up the cals more each week to see how much you need to eat to keep growing.
Yr friend is growing because his cal intake is above his needs but he wont keep lean mass, but if you eat clean you will keep leanish and grow
Dont get down because he is growing faster, we all grow at differant rates.

Hey Westy. You have to remember that we all have different genetics. Some of us are easy gainers and some of us are hard gainers. bodyshop20 also brings up a good point about getting away with eating a ton of junk while you're young. don't be afraid to cheat on your diet but don't throw it down the tubes either because of your friend. Keep up the hard work!
