Eggs for breakfast seem promising
Here's a post about a study which has results that may be of value to some of you who are trying to achieve weight loss.
Quote:
Topic: Eating Eggs for Breakfast Increases Satiety and Reduces Short-Term Food Intake in Overweight Women
Reference: “Short-term effect of eggs on satiety in overweight and obese subjects,” Vander Wal JS, Marth JM, et al, J Am Coll Nutr., 2005; 24(6): 510-5. (Address: Department of Psychology, Saint Louis University, Missouri, USA).
Summary: In a randomized, crossover design study involving 30 overweight women (BMI at least 25 kg/m2; ages 25-60 years), consumption of a breakfast consisting of eggs induced greater satiety and significantly reduced short-term energy intake, compared to consumption of a bagel-based breakfast. Following an overnight fast, the subjects were randomized to an egg or bagel-based breakfast, and after a 2 week washout period, the breakfast interventions were crossed for another day. The egg breakfast comprised of 2 eggs-scrambled, 2 slices of toast, and 1 tablespoon of reduced calorie fruit spread, while the bagel-based breakfast comprised of 1 bagel, 2 tablespoons of cream cheese, and 3 oz of non-fat yogurt. The weight and energy content of both breakfasts were similar. Food intake at breakfast and lunch was weighed and subjects recorded food intake by completing 24-hour dietary records. Satiety in subjects was assessed using the Fullness Questionnaire and the State-Trait Food Cravin gs Questionnaire. Subjects had greater feelings of satiety during the pre-lunch period after consuming the egg breakfast, compared to the bagel-based breakfast. Additionally, the subjects consumed significantly less energy (-685.7 kJ), protein (-5.5 g), carbohydrate (-27.8 g) and fat (-3.4 g) for lunch after the egg breakfast than after the bagel-based breakfast. Furthermore, energy, protein and carbohydrate intake for the entire day until noon the following day remained lower following the egg breakfast. Thus, the findings of this study indicate that an egg-breakfast induces greater satiety and significantly reduces short-term food intake, and therefore may have a potential role in weight management.

Eggs rule! I have 3 eggs and a slice of wheat toast every morning and I don't get hungry until about lunch time or later!

Yes, I do best when I have a couple of eggs for breakfast, a piece of fresh fruit and a coffee. Maybe I'll have an whole grain english muffin or just half with it.
This should be good news for those trying to make lifestyle changes because of dieting. A scramled egg takes about a minute to prepare and another to cook.

Many complain about the fat supplied in the yolk, but excluding it severely reduces the nutritious power of the whole unit. Eat your yolks!

OK, at this point I have to ask: Why is every dietary study conducted on over weight women?

1. Because they represents a sizable segment of the population, and
2. They are among the biggest spenders in the diet products market.

I've eaten them, they seem fine for someone going for a very low fat diet.
However, I tend to agree with what cursor posted before.

Egg Beaters (and the like) are OK ... but not near as flavorful or nutritious (both, because the yolk is removed).

Great idea. I'll boil some up for lunch tomorrow. Already got italian chicken in the oven now - they wouldn't go well with it.
