ever just have one of those days?
I've done so well this week. No chocolate...no sugar...just clean eatin' and working out every day....that is until today. I don't know what came over me, but it all began when my boss put this huge bowl of easter candy on her desk....which just so happens to be within an arm's reach of where my desk is. I did fine up until the last hour of work, when I started to get a little antsy. I had like 6 pieces of chocolate. I felt so ****ty about it. I think that just giving in that little bit kinda through me off for the rest of the day. I figured well, if i'm gonna screw up...I may as well REALLY screw up and make it worth it. So I went home to eat a whole can of beans...a large salad w/ chicken nuggets...and just when I thought it was all over, I decided to go make a Sonic run and order a large chocolate banana malt...but before I left to go get that, I thought i'd grab a few valentine's day chocolates for the road! Can anybody say................WEAK?! oh yeah, because I ate all that crap today, I obviously didn't feel like working out. All I know is i'm gonna feel pretty low tomorrow.

To me it sounds like you just over-indulged on a sugar craving that is normal for the body to want. I dont buy into completely staying away from certain foods, especially sugary ones, because your body needs a certain amount of these sugars and fats to keep its integrity. Having bad cravings like that should tell you that your body needs it, but just a little bit, not like what you had.

Well you can definately prevent this from happening again by NOT completely cutting it out of your diet. Like gooseneck said, it's pretty normal for your body to crave certain things if you cut it out of your diet completely. So just eat sugary foods more often, but in smaller quantities.
Why are you cutting these foods out of your diet completely?

On the other hand, if you are like me and totally weak then it would not be good to include them.
That's where your honesty with yourself and knowledge of yourself comes into play.
I know that If I start eating cookies, candies, cakes...whatever - I won't stop until they are gone. So I just eliminate those things completely from my nutrition plan. Never, never, never have them. The first two weeks can be rough, the next two isn't too bad. After about a month you don't even want them anymore.
I allow myself one box of girlscout cookies a year. Sit down and eat them all at once. That way I'm sick of them and don't want them again for another year. The multiple trips to the bathroom the next day help remind me why I don't eat those foods anymore.
For some people moderation is the key. For those of us who are weak - there can be no moderation, simply hardcore strict nutrition. Know yourself and know what you have to do.

Hello, my name is Andy and I'm a cookie-holic....
Hey, what ever works for you. I have a chocolate thing, and I am still struggling to get control of it. I'm around it all the time, there's a guy here that brings a huge bag of Hershey's miniatures everyday... I have to force myself not to indulge, sometimes I win - sometimes, not so much!

SM, you called it right. Sadly, when I got so fat - I had already realized that and got obese on "healthy" eating. I was eating a very low fat, almost vegetarian diet - for years...getting fatter every day.

Andy just stick to those chocolate minty thingys that the GGs recently came up with! They are so gross you'll be burping disgusting mint for hours after. Those and Snackwells give cookies a bad name!

Since New Year's Day, I have not eaten any cookies, cakes or candies, and that means no chocolate. That equates to 70 days of cookies, cakes, candies & chocolate sobriety. Interesting enough, my BW is down by 5 lbs. even though I am eating more now than I have in the past.
I've done this before, several years ago during which I probably went at least 14 months without eating any cookies, cakes, candies or chocolate. Then I went to Spain and Italy and decided to relax, and started drinking hot chocolate, eating gelatto, etc., etc.
What I've discovered about myself is that I can't eat that stuff sensibly so it's easier for me not to eat it at all. After about 30 days, it becomes easy. It's the first 30 days that's tough.
That's not to say that I will never eat any cookies, cakes, candies or chocolate again. But just not right now. And as I post this and think about it, I don't have a desire to have any.
Seems that when I eat that stuff regularly I want to eat more. It's like the sugar triggers something, and once it's triggered it's hard to shut off.
If you are going to eat it, you might as well enjoy it. I like bittersweet dark chocolate the best. If I ever decide to relax, that is what I am going to eat first.

WE generally avoid cake , cookies etc. but allow ourselves certain desserts to keep the sugaar cravings under control. Fat free Fig Newtons, low fat no sugar added frozen yogurt. Even the occasional notorious Snackwells cookie.
Last week I discovered a Devils Food cake mik in the cupboard left over from one of my wife's preschool projects. I baked it, but modified the recipe a bit:
replaced the 1/2 cup of oil with 2 tbsp oil + 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce.
replaced the 3 eggs with 3/4 cup egg substitute (basically egg whites)
Sprayed the baking dish lightly with cooking spray instead of smearing it with butter or shortening.
Baked as normal
For frosting, I mixed fat free cream cheese, a bit of fat free sour cream, vanilla, and Splenda. The frosting recipe is posted in the recipes section with the carrot cake recipe, which is buried in the Spicy Tuna thread.
I didn't do a nutritional analysis of the modified cake recipe, but it's definitely lower in fat and healthier than the straight recipe with regular buttercream frosting! Plus, we limited ourselves to a single small serving of cake a day.

Confession:
I bought 6 pecan butter tarts yesterday. Although I won't be eating them all, no one at home likes them the way I do. This is the first time I've bought a package of them in several years. The last time I had one was a regretfully crappy Subway butter tart which I mostly threw out. That was about 6-8 months ago. These ones are especially gooey, sticky and sloppy, but once they are gone it's over. Then the satisfaction will carry me over for an awfully long time, probably years. These were a rare find. :
I also hade a big bowl of fresh strawberries and bananas with a 1 TBSP smear of sour cream to start off breakfast this morning. Mmmmmm!

An occasional cheat does not a fat person make. My problem is that I cheat a couple times a week, and I KNOW that's why I'm still looking at love handles. Oh well, you're only one meal away from getting back on the wagon.

From what I've read of your posts Brat, your goals are somewhat different from many others. What's the occasional tart going to hurt?

I actually just discovered about a month ago that I LOVE pecans! To me, they are buttery with just the right amount of sweetness.

Pecans are awesome! Lucky for me I am soon moving from a place where pecans sell for $22 /kilo to a state where they grow in the backyard and are sold at the side of the road like late august tomatos and zucchini!
(Yes welch, my goals are different. I want to be a memorably, kind, excentric, warm, huggable gramma when the time comes - the kind that is soft to touch but strong enough for a fight if the family needs defending)
