Food steamers

I'm thinking of getting a food steamer. It seems like such a convenient way to prepare food. I know that you can just put steamer pans into a regular pot on the stove, and I do have a couple of those, but, well, the truth is, I like kitchen gadgets

Anybody have a food steamer? Do you use it alot? Do you like it?

I have two pans - the top one has holes in it and fits into the bottom one. I put water in the bottom one and the food in the top one. Bring the water in the bottom one to boil and add the top pan.

I use mine almost daily to steam veggies for dinner. I don't like kitchen gadets but I could not live without my steamer pans.

Thanks for your reply, LadyC. I really like steamed veggies; they taste so much better than microwaved or boiled.

Has anyone tried steaming meat? I'm not sure what steamed meats would taste like. I tend to use my gas weber or (if the weather is icky) my george foreman. So I'm not sure how much use I'd get from a food steamer, and if it'd be worth it just for veggies. I have a rice cooker, so I probably wouldn't use it for rice.

Not good I would imagine... I was a cook at heartland of Browning HCR ManorCare, We never cooked anything in our giant sized steamer other than vegetables, and eggs... oh and puree'd meat...... I dont think steaming your meat would be a good idea, you dont want it to get wet.
