Go Figure
I used to read people's posts on here about how they were having difficulty eating enough food to help them reach their goals. Some people wondered how they could get enough calories spread over six meals. Others wondered how they could eat fewer calories spread over six meals. Today I found myself in a similar situation.
As I stated in another post, it's hard to eat enough food when you drink so much you have no appetite. Last Tuesday, I crashed in the middle of a five mile run because I wasn't eating enough to support my activity level. Today is now Monday. I have not run since last Tuesday. Today I'm back in the saddle. Getting ready to go run. Feels like at least 100 outside. So I have made an effort to make sure I both eat and drink enough for what I'm about to go through.
I love food. I love to eat. I've often thought of how wonderful it would be if I were ever in a situation where I needed to eat more. Well, today was that day. So for those of you who have come onto this forum talking about how hard it is to force feed yourself, I feel your pain! That is a pain I thought I would never feel.
I'm looking back over today and what I've had to eat. I hate to say this but it's STILL not enough. Here's the breakdown - times are approximate:
6:00 One container of Smartstart cereal with fat-free milk.
10:30 Turkey sandwich on whole wheat with lots of veggies and mustard.
11:30 One deviled egg half.
12:15 One container of Smartstart cereal with fat-free milk.
12:30 A few bites of chicken (very little)
The chicken is where I really had problems. I'm thinking to myself I still need to eat more because I've eaten very little. I'm still working outside and it's hot. I'm still going to go running this afternoon. I need to eat.
Yea, whatever. You drink, drink, and drink. No appetite.
Ya know, I really shouldn't complain about not being able to eat. After all, I am trying to lose some weight. So this really shouldn't be a bad thing.
Seems to me I need to keep my running down to about two or three miles, but make them intense. I'm thinking if I start going five plus miles in the heat, that's when I'm going to crash. Makes sense, right?
Ok, -V- told me me I always find what works for me. So I'm having to continue searching for what works for me. I need to hurry up and find it because I'm running out of time before I come back home. Time is really flying over here.
So if there are any words of encouragement here for those of you who have to force feed yourselves or who are searching for what works for you, I feel ya!
The bottom line is sometimes we have to keep searching for what works. It's not the same for everyone. Diligence is key. Be patient. Rome wasn't built in a day.
Good luck to everyone as we all strive to reach our goals.

dude... yea. Ive cried from forcing myself to eat. I know I had to do it, just to teach myself I never had as big of an appetite as I thought I did. When I first got the concept of eating 6 times a day, I did it 800 calories a meal. no joke. first day goes by well motivated, 3-4th day get hectic. you wanna puke, you wanna crap your brains out, you feel bloated. i think after a few weeks I got the hang of it and started doing ok.
too bad you havta make the 6-1030 stretch, thats what kills ya! caz then you got 4 meals packed together between 1030-1230
I agree with you on training, providing you make that good attemt to eat real big, I would train short but crazy intense, and then for your marathons, you actually have to eat super super big the day before and the day of, and maybe you wont crash running 5mile marathon.
just something i saw on the news this morning, I dont know if the guy was from around here, or just somewhere in the U.S. but he ran 2 marathons in one day for a total of 52miles in around 11 hours. purpose had to do with juvenile diabetes I believe?
Good luck Ed!

Ok man, this is ridiculous. Just absolutely no energy again today. This is stupid. I guess I'm still not eating enough. And Lady C would kill me if she knew what I did. I told her I was going to lift three days a week and run three days a week. Well, I just can't grasp the concept of not doing both six days a week. So not much changed this week, including a mid-week crash. Something's gotta change!!

As you continue to analyze your plight, keep in the equation the possibility that you getting old has something to do with your energy level.
I have had to fess up to this myself.
I'm cheering for you!

Hey Sooner,
I know you are not a counter, but do you have a ballpark figure of how may calories you are eating in relation to the activity at hand?
For myself, I increase my calories by about 20% (pre and post workout meals) on my workout days.

Klide, let me get back with you on that. On my way to seven hours of sleep after pigging out.
