good pre and post workout ideas


I'm starting my full conditioning soon, theres a post in the workout forum, for those that havent seen it yet. I'd like some advice for what to eat/drink before and after my workouts. Post protein shake? I plan on taking creatine before the workout, if anyone has any recommendations on what I should take with it, and how long before I start I should take it, thanks. I seem to be misinformed about creatine and what it needs with it, so people that use it, heres where I need you! Thanks for all the help (once again, I hope to hear from you too cursor ).

oh yeah, id like recommended stuff too. So if you say shake, tell me what kind and brand you recommend, etc.

I take Pro Complex post workout and I love it 5.3g of glutamine and 55g of bisorce protein. (many kinds of whey and some egg). I suggest that for you post workout and you can get it pretty cheap off of bodybuilding.com that is where I get mine.

Whey and fruit shakes. Throw in some cottage cheese and non-fat yogurt for smoothness and you're crusin. Here's a sample.

pre or post? also, how expensive is that? Im willing to spend money, but Im extremely short on money right now, thats the biggest problem i have is cash flow.

Depending on your nutritional philosophies, it could be pre AND post. If you seriously work your butt off (with absolute and full intensity) then a higher glycemic (higher simple carb) intake can really drive the nutrients to your thirsty muscles. One of the problems in consuming a shake like this as your preworkout meal is that it's difficult to be sure that your workout will be intense enough. That's why the mental (and physical) fortitude is so extremely important during a workout. If you don't work your butt off, then (my experience says) the simple carbs get steered off to fat. Risk, risk, risk...

As far as monetary expense goes—I don't know. We buy tons of fruits, vegetables, eggs & other dairy, chicken, and fish on a weekly basis. When we buy 6-dozen eggs at a time, the price per egg is a measly 7.2˘ each.

how would pro complex drink (lil'lifter mentioned that) be as a pre and post?

I wouldn't use that pro-complex pre-workout, it has too little carbs and just basically the wrong balances for a pre-workout meal.... cursor has posted some near perfect macro nutrient broken down pre-workout meals, take a look at some of them. As a post workout shake, I guess its not doing too bad there, however your gonna want to add a bit more to that post-workout carb ratio which the shake lacks. Your best bet would be to drink some pure fruit juice or have some dextrose with it to shuttle that much needed protein to fuel and repair your gagging muscles

There's no question that following an intense workout, your glucose levels are at a pretty darn sorry level. The best way to open the Amino Acid Highway to your muscles is to get an insulin induced escort (with sirens a screamin'). Make sure that your post-workout meal is not only easily digestible (liquid form is best), but using a high glycemic carbohydrate base will kick things in gear very nicely. Like Lee indicates, juice is good (for post-workout anyway...)

english please, im not that far in yet . I'd love to make some of the stuff you make, but I can't afford that yet. As far as what you're telling me here, can you let me in on what will give me that? and can i buy it online (**** seems cheaper online). Thanks for the help cursor, you rock.

where do i get 100% fruit juice from? I know theres multiple fruice drinks on the market, but I'm not sure where I can obtain this 100% fruit juice. As far as mixing whey protein in with it, any recommendations on what brand to use, etc? I'm willing to learn this stuff technically over time, but right now, the answers I'm hoping for are more along the lines of "drink juicy juice with 2 scoops of shooza billy brand whey protein", I won't always ask for easy bs answers, but right now that is best, while I keep researching. I'm going by borders once I have some extra cash flow, so I can buy some books on nuitrition and how the body works.

Lee I know that the carbs are low, but I add honey to my shake post workout. That way I get some high quality sugar instead of GOD knows what the company would use for carbs. See there is a method to my maddness. Pre workout all I do is eat a protein bar with 16g of egg protein and hour to two hours before I lift.
