Grams of fat per day....

How many grams of fat per day is safe? Right now I consume on average of about 50 grams of fat per day...they are all "good" fats coming from lean turkey, chicken, olive oil (very little) and the ocassional peanut butter. Thanks for the help. :

make sure fats are at least 20% of your daily calorie intake. some studies have shown that less fat than this leads to decreased testosterone levels. ive always gone 20-30%. those fat sources you mentioned are great. you may consider adding some fish oil in there as well to get some omega 3.

Why do you think the saturated fats in turkey and chicken are "good" fats? Poultry contains levels of cholesterol similar to beef.

Well, it depends a lot on the cut. A skinless chicken breast is fairly low in fat to begin with and a relatively small amount of that fat is saturated.

Compare that to a thigh with skin where the fat content can account for over half the total cals and roughly a third of that fat is saturated.

I only eat turkey breast and chicken breast both with no skin and I only use a grille when preparing.

Here's reference to a former post on fats (including saturated values) for various kinds of meat and poultry: Meats
