What fat to protien ratio can I expect from ground beef. My mom ussually buys the 90% lean variety and pan sears it, then drains off the fat.
I checked nutriional data base in the sticky and don't believe the results (it listed 10 grams of fat/85 gram serving, over 10%, and was the same regardless off cooking method i.e. raw to pan seared had almost the exact same ratio of fat/protien)

A 3 ounce serving of 90% lean beef has 10.9 grams of fat, of which 3.9 grams is saturated fat. Protein is 22.2 grams. Total calories are 184 with 90 calories from fat (49%), 72 mg of cholesterol, no dietary fiber and no carbohydrates. Fat to protein ratio is roughly 1:2.
That's the information I got and as I describe above I don't believe it for the following reasons
1) it is the same fat/protien ratio raw or pan seared (some fat comes off)
2) 10.9 grams is 13% of three ounces so it doesn't even add up right even when raw the number don't work
Most of the liquid that you drain off is water not fat, although there is some fat in it. It is your choice to believe it or not, but those databases are pretty close.
Do you guys all eat ground meat? I am kind of grossed out by it. All the horror stories about how they process it - how dirty and impure it is. Know of any good, clean sources of ground meat? Same goes for hotdogs.
