Had to change a meal at work...

I've been eating tuna for lunch (aka meal 3) at work... well, as we all know tuna has a rather potent odor and it carried it's way out of my office and over to the secretaries area.

Therefore, no more tuna at work for me

So, I went and got some turkey patties and cooked them up tonight so I can nuke them at work and have that instead.

What do you think? Good substitute?

I tried chicken breast last week... just didn't cut it. During the summer months it will be better when I can grille them, the George Foreman works ok but it's just not the same.

Sorry to hear about the tuna. I can't stand the stuff but it sucks all the same. Lately i've been trying to cut out my protein shakes some and eat more meat. My solution was turkey patties and boy, I love em! Yesterday in fact I got a George Foreman at Target (2 for 22$ sale) since I HATE cooking and it works great. The point of all this? Yes, I think turkey patties are a very good option. They are great protein and very lean in fat/chol. They also have more "taste" to them than chicken so that's why I went to them. Nuking them at work will dry them out a bit but you do what you have to.

I cooked 6 of them up last night, and since there are only 5 days in my work week I had to eat the 6th one (of course). That, and I just wanted to see how it tasted... not bad at all! Much better than tuna or the chicken I had been bringing in to work. I'll find out today if they taste alright nuked or not.

I'm hoping so...

I also got some turkey sausage for breakfast, but to my surprise they taste and smell awful... going to have to find something to put on them to make it bearable. Maybe a bagel or toast... not sure yet.

I work in a very tight work environment also and happen to like tuna as snacks. I used to bring the containers/packs to work and open them up and had the exact same problem as you with the smell. So I ended up getting some small containers. Open the tuna the night before and rinse it thouroughly. Then mix in some stuff to help disguise any odor that is left(although you will find a thourough rinse will erase most if not all of it) and put the tuna in the new container. I usually mix it with some FF mayo and relish for some quick tuna salad or if Im desparate and need it really quick just mix with some salsa. It only takes a minute or two more for preparation and you still get to eat your tuna!! TRY IT OUT!! :

Thanks for the tip, I'll give that a whirl next wee... not sure yet if I like the nuked turkey burgers. Going to try it with ketchup today, yesterday I used FF ranch and it was ok at best.

Thats going to be a problem you get with any lean meats. Even chicken will dry out if you nuke it to much. You can try putting a dab of water in the bowl when warming in the microwave or if you want to grill a turkey burger you can try mixing in a little bit of Olive oil(this is an old trick we use with Deer that we had processesed into burger). The olive oil will help hold the meat together and WILL add calories but at least the extra fat will come from Fats that your body will actually use!!

Im lucky in that the Walmart around here has really good prices on extra lean ground (96%/4%)beef so I usually get that instaed of the alternatives but it gets just as dry. Ive actually found that a 92% 8% mixture seems to be the best for taste / texture while still maintaining a relatively low fat ratio. Especially if you grill it as even more of the fat will drip off or burn off!!

Good luck with your goals!
