Heat and Appetite

Does anyone use the summer heat to suppress your appetite?

I'm running across a situation I'm usually not in, but I think it's a good one. It's still March and temperatures here in Baghdad have already reached 100. I work about 11 hours a day, pretty fast paced for most of the day (makes the day go by faster as well), and part of the work is outside. It's really easy work. Nothing too physical. And not for longs periods of time. I find my body screaming for water. As a result, my water consumption is suppressing my appetite. I've also started working out again on a regular basis now that we have a schedule, which I haven't had since last October. I get up at 1:30am to go to the gym. Have to be at work at 4am. Get off at 3pm. Hopefully get a little sleep until 6:30pm when I go running with a friend. I'm hoping with all of this activity and very little appetite, this will work in my favor. I am able to eat more in the mornings before it gets hot, so I'm still getting my food in, just earlier in the day.

So my question is, is anyone else able to use the summer heat to suppress your appetite?

Absolutely, though not to the extreme that you're able to do it. It works for me too, and you better believe I'm taking advantage of it.

for me, I am more hungry in the summer time, I would say prolly caz of more activities I do in the summer... like softball, playing basketball down the street at the playground, going to the park couple times a week, going to cedar point 15 times (which me and my girlfriend did last summer) and I ate like a champion every time we went!

I found that last summer I was able to eat 4000+ calories a day no problem, while during this winter it was more like 3000 and barely being able to...

I was hoping this would work in my favor, but it hasn't.

We had a couple of 100+ days here in Baghdad in March and we've had a few here in April. I was attempting to get up at 1:30am to go to the gym but that didn't work out. I simply was not getting enough sleep. So we ditched that plan in favor of body weight exercises before running in the evening. Pierini hooked me up on some simple stuff that really works quite well. So we've tried running five days a week and doing the bodyweight stuff three days a week. Well, that didn't work either. We've had to back our running off to three days a week along with the bodyweight exercises before.

The other day I drank almost three liters of water in a three hour period. It was pretty hot and working outside made my body scream for water. Earlier in the day when it was cooler, I was eating some, but not that much. It's more like snacking all morning but nothing big. Then when lunch comes, I'm drinking so much water and when it's hot and I'm working outside, it just zaps my appetite. Then I try to go running at 6:30pm but by that time I'm getting pretty tired. Then only getting four to five hours of sleep a night. Just not enough. A friend and I are getting ready to enter marathon training and I just haven't been able to eat enough to support that activity. There have been a couple of times I've totally crashed during lunch...no energy whatsoever. So we're going to run three days a week and get plenty of sleep the night before. That should work out well.

I guess if my only goal was to lose weight, this would work out really well. Now I have to be extremely focused on trying to eat enough while drinking a ton of water and sugar-free electrolyte drink mix. I never thought in my entire life I would ever have a problem eating enough. Go figure.
