High energy foods
It came to my attention yesterday that for the past two weeks I have been seriously over-doing it.
I lift three times a week (one lower body, one upper body and a full body on the weekend) and going to the gym for 30-50 minutes 3-4 times a week. Plus all my college activities such as dancing, movement and drama rehearsals, which involves a lot of physical activity and energy.
In itself the above isn't really too much, the problem is that I'm not getting enough energy from the food I'm eating. I'm a little stumped as to what to do, because recently I've had a magor decrease in appetite, and I generaly don't have a lot of time in the day to eat. So I have to make sure that when I do eat, I eat well and comsume enough energy to keep me going.
On an average college day I eat;
breakfast; 1 piece of brown toast with low-fat margerine and marmite.
morning snack; either a nutri-grain bar, or if I'm down at the gym a protein shake.
Lunch; sandwich packed with ham. Or just ham/other meat, with fruit, maybe some rice cakes.
Snack; more ham or fruit.
Dinner; usually a big meal, maybe chicken stir-fry, chilli or eggs and beans.
I definately need more fat in my diet, because yesterday when I was really sick a bit of fat really made me feel better. I think I also need to eat more fruit and veg, but I don't want to over do it with the carbs.
Cougar suggested I eat peanut butter or add some olive oil once a day, any other suggestions of how to increase my food intake?

They make some really tasty snack bars that are about half nuts. Fat really is the best way to get sustained energy release.
A carb/protein/fat meal will last you 6 hrs with a little practice.

Hope I don't offend you, but your breakfast sucks big time.
You lift and dance...you got to really get more food into you. Breakfast is THE meal of the day.
Here's mine: Huge bowl of oats with artificial sweetner. Yogurt mixed with soy protein on the side. Followed by 4 scrambled eggs (minus two yolks - which goes to my dog) . The eggs go on two slices of brown bread - unbuttered. Wash it all down with a pot of coffee. If I'm still hungry after that, I'd have a banana or whatever fruit I have.
Maybe it's just me....I always wake up ravenoulsy hungry...especially the day after a hard workout.

Steve, no worries, I'm not offended by your insulting of my breakfast.
I hate sounding like such a feeble woman but I cannot manage much in the morning. I only have half an hour to get out of the house, ten minutes of which is for eating. Plus I'm usually really queasy when I wake up and coffee and toast is all I can manage. Even cereal makes me gag. . .
I can see that a big breakfast would be helpful, but it just isn't possible for me. Maybe I could supplement with a larger, more nutritious mid-morning meal?
Thanks for the advice guys.
-Leofell.

If you really can't eat in the morning, take some food with you to work. A couple of bananas and a ham and cheese sandwich would do for starters. I take food to work as well. Usually a packed sandwich and a piece of chicken breast. And a pint of skimmed milk.
Eating is my other hobby.....

ever tried washing the toast down with an mrp. ive tried a few and have liked them. one my coach sells is an advocare product called perfect meal. from what he and some other people have said to me about it, it sounds like a decent enough product. im sure there are hundreds more out there to choose from. i always find them to be a nice thing to go with a snack or even to bump up protien and carbs in a full meal. if you mix them with water they go down realy quick. milk is a little harder to take it down with but tastes a little better and adds protein and such.

The eating was increased a fair amount for me, but foolishly, so was everything else.
Basically I've pushed myself to near exhaustion, infact yesterday I was physically ill from all the work. I was suffering with heart palpitations, dizziness and I even started hyperventilating.
So. . . .I'm stopping everything until my body starts to feel healthy again. I'm going to keep up with the good eating so that I'll hopefully heal faster. Then everything is going to slow down a bit when I start lifting again. Lifting will be three times a week, gym 1-2 times a week. And no more.
*sigh*
How silly we teenagers are. . . . . .
Oh, and thanks for asking Steve.

You're welcome, and I wouldn't say silly. We sometimes don't realize the enormous stress we put our bodies through with weightlifting. Mother Nature surely didn't design us to be supermen and women. WE are the ones who has this idea of redisigning ourselves. So we have to compensate for that by looking after ourselves much more than the average person.
BTW, how much Vit C and/or other vitamins are you taking? Remember when you lift, RDA's goes out the window.
You could take 2000/3000mg of Vit C a day.
I go through 200 tabs (500mg each) a month myself.

Oh boy, are you right!
Since I've moved to Brazil I had this funny feeling, ....that I'm on another planet. Anyways, I love being insane....who wants to be normal?
Too many boring normal creatures around already.
BTW, my avatar describes me perfectly!
Peace to ya all.

PS. I just had a lovely fight with the asshole technician from my internet provider...I couldn't connect, so I asked him if he is a rational person. After a few seconds of dumbstrucked silence on his part, he answered that he think he is. I asked him then how come I am paying for a service and not getting it. THAT really messed up his 2 neuron brain capacity......nobody has ever asked him that. You see boys and girls, Brazilians are the most passive people in the world. They pay for goods or a service that they just don't get, and they think it's normal. Oh my god....well to make a long fight short.....the techie told me that he will take it up with his seniors on Monday morning...which of course he wouldn't...he'd have forgotten all about it by tomorrow morning!
Well, that's Brazil...an impossible dream.
More rants later......I got many.
Steve
