it's bad.

the reason you eat many small meals throughout the day is to ensure a steady supply of calories and nutrients and to keep your blood sugar and insulin at optimal levels. your body can only use "x" amount of calories, protein, carbs, vitamins, and minerals at a shot. if you eat more than that at a meal, the rest is converted to fat or excreted.

example, protein. let's assume your body can only absorb, say, 50grams of protein at a time but you need 175 grams of protein per day. if you sit down and eat 175 grams of protein, 125 of that will be converted to fat, burned as energy, or passed through the system. in other words, wasted. if, however, you eat 25 grams in the morning and then 50 grams at each of 3 meals throughout the day, you will be utilizing all of them.

of course, this is a grossly exaggerated example, but you get the idea.

same with calories - if you need 2000 per day but only need 400 at a shot and eat a meal with 700 calories, the excess calories are not burned because they're not needed. they're stored as fat.

by eating only once a day, you also send a signal to your body: there's not enough food to go around. your body then starts emergency procedures, including turning down your metabolic rate by lowering your temperature, off-loading metabolically active tissue, and putting a priority on fat-storage for long-term survival. in other words, you lose muscle and more calories than ever are stored as fat.

Pretty thorough post from threenorns. My addition: 6 meals sounds like a lot, but if you increase your physical activity you will find yourself WANTING to eat every three hours. It becomes a habit, the same way your current routine became a habit. The body will adapt if you give it a little push.

The six meals are actually more like snacks. They are not big. They each contain carbs, protein and fats and not too much of any component.

A key point. My meals, for example, are between 400 and 600 calories each. Figure out your maintenance level before partitioning your calories An example: 2,100 calories a day translates to five 300-calorie meals and a 600-calorie meal.

Eat your biggest "snack" (the 600-cal meal in the above example) post-workout, when your body is craving the replenishment. Do a search for timing your nutrition in this section. Cursor has done most of the work for you already.

Obviously, if what you are saying is "there is no way I can eat more than twice a day," then do what you gotta do. Bring some nuts in your pocket or something like that to munch on during work if it's possible, otherwise, make due.

I have been doing sandwiches through out the day. I make 3 sandwiches for work and eat them at about 10:00, 12:30, 3:00. Through out the day I'll snack on other stuff too like fruit, protien shakes, protien bars, and popcorn. It feels wierd when you start this because you feel like all you do is eat when in fact you're dieting.
