I hate normal people
Lately I've been traveling for work and am often forced away from my diet to be social.
That being said I have ZERO sympathy for fat/averagly plump people. After seeing what normal people consider normal food it is no wonder why this country is fat. Here is a list of things every person should have who ever complained about thier appearance should understand.
NO I do not want cheese, oil, butter etc on my food
YES 100 grams of carbs from white flour is too much in one sitting
NO a muffin is not a complete breakfast
YES I need more than 20grams of protien/day
NO "I go to the gym for 20 min every week" will not get you in top shape
YES I do eat more than two meals a day
YES I do eat a lot because I exersize more than once a month
NO my physical condition is not only b/c I am young, I am in the top 1% of people my age. You were never in this good of shape. Getting fat is not a unavoidable consequence of aging ,it a function of not caring. (Very few people will I believe we're ever in great shape)
YES I am going to completely ignore your fitness advice b/c you are fat and have a doughnut in one hand with a cigarette in the other
NO I do not want a cookie or dessert
NO I do not want sugar soda

what i like is when i say i go to the gym three times a week and do cardio on off days and they blithely dismiss it with a wave of their cigarette and a "oh, i don't have time for all THAT".

I think that old "I don't have time" excuse is stupid!
Most people have to work 8 - 12 hours a day, but even then, that leaves them another 12 Hours to do whatever they want!
And your telling me they can't spare a possible 30 - 60 mins out of that to do some basic exercise?

I feel for them. It is the planning, mostly overcoming fear of commitment that "takes time". How often have I heard "Oh I used to do that and it made my knees hurt or I got nothing out of it or I gained weight doing that or I don't want to get muscular (ROTFLMAO) or that looks like it's hard to do."
"I haven't got time" is always my excuse for I haven't got time to figure out what I need to do for myself.
Oh well, it takes all kinds. We can't save the world if we don't first save ourself.

I watch people all day long at my work, and it just amazes me the percentage of "average plump" people walking around. I work 12 hours a day now.

That and people ask look at you as if to ask "why are you so picky about what you eat" or "do you have to work out every day" and I just want to look at them and say lift up you shirt that unsightly flab is what happens when you aren't so picky.
My main bitch is it's hard to be strict when you have to be social with people who don't care about their health. You end up over eating when you can on food that's marginal at best whole eggs from a buffet and buttery vegetables b/c these people only eat twice a day.
Oh yeah
NO coffee is not a valid replacement for a full nights sleep.

I know exactly what you mean rbuchman. I know someone who's over weight and is trying to lose wait and to him dieting means eating his favourites like cake etc. They have no idea have they?

Live and let live.
Take care of yourself first, worry about them second.
Brat is right though, a lot of these people just don't know. If they're ever able to break past that knowledge barrier and realize that it isn't that hard, then they'll be set.

I know very well how you feel - but why have zero sympathy for people who are overweight? Why not zero sympathy for anyone who has or is developing heart disease or a whole host of other preventable chronic disesases?
Today my wife and I got together for lunch with friends at a local restaurant. We ordered a vegetarian pizza without cheese (with emphasis). What was delivered to the table was a veggie pizza without mozzarella cheese but topped with slivers of parmesan cheese. As we quietly scraped the parmesan from the pizza, a friend sitting next to me said, "you must really get tired of this - what did you say about not wanting cheese that they didn't understand?" The pizza was great (sans cheese).
One of our friends at the lunch today brought us a huge zuchinni (about 2 feet long). A neighbor had grown it and had asked her if she knew anyone who might want it. She immediately thought of us and brought it with her. We had huge slices of baked zuchinni for dinner tonight with red beets and polenta. A great meal!
So give these hefty people a break. While you think they should lose weight to get healthy, I think you should go on a vegan diet to get healthy.
Although we have the routine issues of dealing with people who do not understand why we are vegan, we do have great friends who go out of their way to accomodate us, and for that we are thankful.
For the people who are interested in getting fit and improving their diet, there are forums like this to discuss these issues openly. Otherwise, have some compassion for those who don't have the knowledge, willpower or support to make the personal lifestyle changes to improve their health.
Live and let live - including animals!

I personally have very little sympathy for people with heart disease, lung cancer, cirrhosis etc... if it is of their own creating they have no right to whinge about it (though that said I tend to feel for any sick people I actually meet ... it's more the concept as an abstract I have no time for )
As for a vegan diet and health ... just based on my own interactions with vegans (do you have any idea how many climbers are vegan ... bloody hippies LOL) I do not see the benefits over a well balanced animal-inclusive diet. I do not intend to get into a debate about it - just wanna record my experience as being different to yours.
As for having compassion for a person lacking willpower ... not a chance, willpower is totally self-made, anybody who says they cannot stop eating or cannot get 'psyched' about exercise enough to actually do it is pathetic and worthy of deepest revile. A person lacking support is less pathetic IMO (bordering on not pathetic at all ), but it is not that hard to go it alone, lots of us do.
And as for knowledge ... learning what litle I now know about the human body and how to train it/look after it has cost me nothing but some time, an internet connection and library fees ... lets not pretend it is so hard to get educated about these things if one is so inclined ... (although on second though there is a lot of misinformation out there which could make things difficult).
All in all, to each their own, some people are not interested in being fit and healthy, just as I am not interested in ... umm ... Mao's thoughts on early Ming atristry (actually I would read a book about that). If you're gonna cut yourself off from the world because socialising will make you fat ... get a life, no point living til you're a hundred and fifty if youve got no friends.

I somewhat agree with the poster. I hate it, but it is true that in order to be sociable you have to live like others, meaning going out for a drinks and eating crap food. I am trying to minimise this damage as much as I can, but still, sometimes people look at you like you are crazy...What? You don't like sweet food including muffins, cakes, sweets? Omg...You don't like fast food? Omg
Answer: No, I f...ing don't, give me some meat plz

How does being pissed off about it help you? There's too much negativity in the word. They're hurting themselves, not you. You should calm down about it (in my opinion).
