I Lowered My Cholesterol

So on advice from A_Welch, i switched my diet from a high protein, low fat, low carb diet (which works by the way for cutting, you just have no energy in the gym) to a high protein, high fat, low carb diet (timed carbs only). I have lowered my overall cholesterol by 20% as well as dropping about 20 lbs in the last 3-4 months or so.

I am now starting to really believe in the high fat diets, especially for the way I train. It gives me more energy in the gym. I never feel sluggish. My strength is down a tad or just around maintaining, but that's due to cutting.

Here's my numbers,

6 months ago (at weight 310ish in the morning):

Overall Cholesterol: 265
Triglycerides: 400
LDL: Unmeasurable
HDL: 36ish (can't remember, but it was over the recommended low)

June 28th, 2006 (at weight 285 in the afternoon)
Overall Cholesterol: 211 (20% improvement)
Triglycerides: 113 (unbelievable! 71% drop!)
LDL: 144
HDL: Forgot to ask

So there you have it. Slightly high still but that's ok. I expected the numbers to be just above the boundary. Another 10 lbs of fat loss and they'll be well below the recommended limit.

The thing that bugs me is the lady told me the doctor sent out a letter recommending i go back on Lipitor and get the numbers checked in 2 months. Um HELLO! I just lowered my cholesterol by myself. Why am i going to get on a med now? I refused it when i was at a cholesterol of 265 because a couple years ago i lowered it from 259 down to 137 on my own after dropping 74lbs LoL.

I'm around 28% bodyfat right now. This time I'm taking it down to 15% before i start trying to build strength and muscle. I was so close last time at 268lbs and i lost my mind. What was I thinking? Oh yeah, I was thinking about big weights lol.

if i can get it there, believe me, pictures will be a coming.

doesn't building strength and muscle help burn fat? What about also extra smaller meals?

I eat 6-7 times a day. You have more muscle you gotta eat more to maintain it. It's all in proportion ain't it? It's tough to build strength and lose weight. Oil and water man.

so what are going to do? lose weight, then gain it back getting fat, and raising the cholestrol again to get strong?, whats the point in doing it in the first place then?

The point right now is to get my body fat percentage under control (<20%). THat is my first priority.

No i presume he will lose the weight then gain lean mass on a slow lean bulk. Much easier to gain muscle starting off at a lower bf % from aromatase reduction alone

Firehawk, you've done great. And from the last video - you look slimmer than your weight says you should be. Must have something to do with a 200+lb LBM. Keep doing what works for ya.

That is an excellent change (and an argument for keeping up with dietary fats) : .

Congratulations FH!

Thanks, I started the thread to give Welch the Kudos. I had doubts for sure. I'm going to get my blood work done again in 3 months and i expect to be in even better shape by then.

The Props go to you for having the dicipline and putting in the hard work to change your body and your health. I can only tell what worked for me and why I believe it worked. You had to make the decision to adapt it to your life and make it work for you. And it seems you are definitely on the right track for your body's own individual metabolic needs.

Lowering cholesterol DOES NOT matter

If any of you want I will personally cite you all 18 Clinical Dietary Intervention Trials done to date .

Persons who used polyunsaturated vegetable oil DIED OF CORONARY HEART DISEASE in the studies. OH.....BUT THEY" LOWERED THIER CHOLESTEROL"

Mortality was INCREASED in the 23 ml lower cholesterol polyunsaturated crowd compared to the animal fat eaters LOOK IT UP! National Diert -Heart Study

LOWER IS NOT BETTER I REPEAT LOWER IS NOT BETTER AS FAR AS CHOLESTEROL LEVELS!

There is a U curve, too low is bad and too high is bad. I think it was the Japanese actually had to recommend more saturated fats because their cholesterol was low on average
