Mindless eating

I found this on another fitness website, a link to a series of short video clips about mindless eating. I caught myself laughing several times.

wow that brian sure is a goober. I agree with him on the bulk foods and big bowls n stuff... but its just not realistic for a person trying to save money to buy small box of cereal, you know? even further its not practical for the 145lb man trying to gain wieight and become the next ronnie coleman!

I think his advice is meant for the average person needing to lose weight.

Also, I suppose you could buy a big box of cereal, then portion it into smaller boxes yourself. It is surprising how much things like the size of the bowl can affect how much we think is a portion. Kinda ties in with merrida's thread about restaurants.

Heys guys, I have a really terrible internet connection over here and the streaming sucks. Would someone mind breaking all of this down for me so I know what the video was about?

Thanks.

Basically, the bigger the bag, box, bowl, plate you eat on/from, the more you will eat. But you won't realize you're eating more. You will also eat what you see first in the cupboard/fridge, so put healthy stuff in front. (For me though, I don't go looking for a snack. I know what's in my kitchen, and I decide what I want to eat without looking around, then go get it.)

Also, if you keep a candy dish on your desk, it should be opaque at least 6 feet away, and not have chocolate (although I'm not sure about the suggestion to put in a can of spam).

Did that about get everything?

I think in general most people over estimate what a portion is.

yea he was saying... if you have a 48 oz. bowl... your not going to fill it up with only one serving which may be only 12 oz. and be like "oh thats enough" he says you are going to be more obligated to fill the entire bowl up, because the bowl just doesnt look right half full... as opposed to if you have a 12-16 oz. bowl, filling that to the top will look full and would be an ok portion... just guesstimates I dont know how big bowls are..

Oh and he was a bit nerdy about the whole thing.
