Morning workouts - what's the pre-workout breakfast like?

The search feature didn't help much, so let me just ask.

I wake up around 6:45am and I'm at the gym by 8. Usually I have breakfast around 7, so I have an hour to process the food. Since I just recently started working out in the mornings I haven't had a chance to figure out if I should just eat my normal breakfast as before, (eggs/toast/milk, etc.) or do something totally different, like have a banana/whey shake and that's it.


If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door.

i would say stick with the eggs/toast, maybe add some peanut butter in their or even a banana because you just woke up and your metabolism is kicking itself into high gear for the energy you are going to need so getting a good breakfast is "key" IMHO to having a great workout and getting great results expecually if you lift in the morning

Depending on your size, 3-6 egg scrambled egg whites, protein shake, 1-2 cups oatmeal with nuts, 1-2 slices whole grain bread with natural PB. All good choices.

good thread i was wondering the same. i lift 1st thing also i tried doing it a couple times on just a pro shake (thinking id burn more fat). what a joke. the amount of reps i could do rapidly decreased with each set. and it was very hard to get the last rep no matter what it was. now i go with a banana, a pro shake and some oatmeal. tweeter is right, it really is key for first thing work out ppl.

Some prime examples of good complex carb/protein pre-workout meals I have:

1 Cup Oatmeal/Oat Bran
4 Egg whites
1 Peice Whole Wheat Toast


2/3 Cup Grits
2 Morning Star Farms Links
1 Peice Whole Wheat Toast


4 Weetabix
1 Cup Soy Milk
1/2 Cup Blueberries


The possiblities are endless. A good pre-workout breakfast is anything with a good amount of complex carbs and protein and low in fat.
Everybody wants to be a bodybuilder, but dont nobody want to lift no heavy ass weights.
