Protien in my trail mix
I have a food dehydrater and am making my own trail mix. So far I've added nuts ( sunflower seeds, walnuts, almonds and peanuts) and dried fruit (raisins, crasins, dried apples, peaches and bananas). What could I add to up the protien of the mix?

you've already got a whack of protein in there - sunflower seeds are protein powerhouses. what i'd actually add would be coconut and oats.

I'd like the trail mix to more closely reflect the rest of my diet 40/40/20 p/c/f. with the nuts providing good fats (and a little protien) and the fruit providing the carbs it still lacks protien.
I plan on using this as a snack to store around i.e. car, desk at work etc to eat when I'm hungry and between meals for extra nutrition.

Stick a few strips of jerky in the bag with the trail mix. Not exactly a compatible component of the trail mix itself, but a good source of protein.
You might also try coating the raisins in Whey protein powder. Place raisins in a paper bag, add powder, roll the top down and shake.

I second the jerky, made with eye of round,or turkey breast. Both have roughly 65g protein for 8oz,430 cal.Theres a ton of jerky recipes, just search the net.I remove the brown sugar most recipes call for though.Healthier and a helluva lot cheaper than that store bought crap.

I once saw a show on tv that took strips of stteak, laid them in furnace airfilers, the corogated disposable kind, attached them to a big fan for about 8 hours, and it made jerky. Alton Brown is the MAN!!!
Sorry, just had to add that.
Is there a type of trail mix that would go along with jerky? Almost like a tex-mex version?

What an odd coincidence...
Just yesterday I received an order from the Oberto factory outlet store that included a five pound bag of pretty finely chopped turkey jerky that only set me back fifteen or so bucks.
I haven't really delved too deeply into the order (which also included some 'factory end' beef jerky and some other closeout products nearing their expiration dates) but I basically bought thirteen or so pounds of jerky for a little over fifty bucks which included shipping.
That's pretty hard to beat
