Seriously! i really dont understand why BREAD
for real, people say that sandwhich bread such as Holsum's Wheat bread or White bread or any type of bread that is related to a normal sandwhich, is bad?? why! can someone please explain?? it's not even that fattening and the nutrition facts are acceptable and ok...
Wheat bread:
Serving Size 1 Slice (26g)
Calories 70 (from Fat 10)
Total Fat 1g
Total Carbs 13g
Protein 2g
Sugars 2g
Sodium 120mg
the rest are 0g's...
and from a normal bread such as a soft white bread is less then 0.5g of Fat and almost the same nutrition facts than a wheated bread!!

daii daii,
Whole wheat and multigrain breads are good for you. But it is best to avoid white, refined breads.
The reason some people say they are bad for you is because the refined, white breads have a high glycemic index (the sugar from the bread gets into your system quickly which means it is more likely to be stored as fat).

Daii daii, most people digest wheat faster than sugar. This raises your blood sugar and spikes your insulin, which will store any fat in your blood stream.
For the last million years we ate roots and veggies, not grains. Hence why we digest it so well (we are used to carrots and the like).
To know if you ate too much bread, or the wrong kind, just pay attention to when you are hungry next. If it's 2 hrs later, then you had too many carbs/bread with your meal.

When looking at the ingredients of bread, make sure you do not get anything that is "Bleached, enriched, or white". It should be Whole Wheat.
Also, Fudo is dead on with what he said. I personally only really eat Sprouted grain breads. They are very healthy and keep me full for awhile. The ingredients are all natrual and you can get them at any health food store.

White bread and soft spongy breads labeled as wheat oat etc. is high glycemic and that is generally a no no unless it is consumed as a potential replacement to dextrose for carb recovery for a post workout meal or perhaps before a short term strenous activity where the energy would be immediately used. Otherwise avoid it for the reasons mentioned before. The expensive breads that are harder to the touch weigh a ton and contain lots of fiber are much better for you.
I haven't had any wheat product including bread for 4 months now and I don't miss it at all.

Go with breads that have words like "multigrain" "5 grain" "7 grain" "whole wheat". Don't get any breads that are white or that say just "wheat" (they have to say "whole wheat" to be good for you).

Know what your daily caloric intake should be and stick to it.
If you post your height, weight, age and exercise routine (i.e. 3x/week cardio for 30 minutes & 3x/week lifting for 35 minutes) we can give you a good estimate for your daily caloric intake.

Similar applies for rice and other wheat flour products.
Try to get 100% wholemeal if possible (whole wheat to you not just wheat). You will learn to recognise the appearance of white flour products and pick others. Sometimes whole wheat isn't always 100% whole wheat and 'brown' bread is often brown from caramel colouring.
Don't stress about it too much, you get the hang of it pretty quickly.
