The official egg thread

So, do you eat eggs? Egg beaters? Egg whites?

I always thought whole eggs were bad for you, then I read:
http://www.t-nation.com/article/body...e_ahha_moments

"The same is true for whole eggs. About half of the protein is in the yolk, along with all of the vitamins and minerals and all of the fat. And some of the fat in the yolk (especially free-range, high-quality eggs) is the healthy stuff. Keep in mind, most studies show that the cholesterol in eggs doesn't raise your blood cholesterol."

Is this true? I usually do 1 whole egg + 2 egg whites to avoid all that cholestoral. Should I just be eating 2-3 whole eggs per serving?

Yes, that is true.

The only reason to drop the yolks are to reduce your fat intake. Why give up such great flavor for a bit of fat. I ALWAYS eat the whole egg. Even in a omelete.

Your liver is producing cholesterol all the time; it's necessary to build cells in your body. When you eat cholesterol, your liver just reduces it's own production. (The only exception to this is in people with inherited high cholesterol.) Eating too much saturated fat or eating trans fats has a much, much greater effect on blood cholesterol levels than (dietary) cholesterol.

So it turns out that dietary cholesterol is not the bad guy we thought it was. Plus, I agree with LadyC that the yolk is where all the yumminess is!

So in your opinion, what do you think an excess amount of yolks per day would be?

I used to think yolk was bad too, and tossed it most of the time.

now I eat 2-3 whole egg per day, tastes so much better! Plus since I now buy cage free they are too dern expensive to be throwing bits of them away lol.

over 10 per day (serious answer)

It also really depends on the person, their activity level and genetics.

Thank you Lady C.

I used to eat all egg white (6 at a time)

Then through some research like up above the mix changed to 1 whole egg and three egg whites (I was eating this 3 times a day on two slices whole wheat bread).

Now I eat only one egg sandwich a day (just for a change of pace), so I use two whole eggs.

I love my eggs =)

I was eating a dozen whole eggs a day in the beggining of things... 6 eggs for first breakfast, 6 for first lunch

The only thing bad about the yolks is the fat you guys said... doesnt it contain polyunsat. fat? Im sure it has saturated fats too but yea, just throwing another question out there.
