When and how to mix milk into microwaved instant oatmeal?

Hi there everyone. After a very long hiatus I'm back at it again and trying to get a morning routine going on. In that vein, I thought I'd start my days off with some oatmeal before swimming a few laps.

Since I haven't eaten oatmeal since I was a kid I'd love more details on how to mix it with milk. The instructions say "Add 2/3 cup water and stir, then heat in microwave for 45-60 seconds".
If I want to add milk should I substitute milk for the water and toss that in the microwave OR should I add the milk once the microwave has worked its magic?

Advice and your methods of prepping your oatmeal are greatly appreciated!

PS, what do you guys think about adding a small amount of locally harvested raw honey? I've been adding amounts to just barely be able to taste, although I mostly stick to fruits as the highlights for the oatmeal.

I like to get my water boiling hot, then add oats for a super quick cook before they get mushy. I like to add a couple tablespoons of flaxmeal, and a dash or two of cinamon.

I do it the same way as Perini. Add hot liquid to your oats. I add a tad of honey sometimes too. I make it the same way with non-instant oats too. I just let them sit with a lid on for 10-15 min to allow them to cook. Then heat and eat.

I use instant oatmeal. I the packet in the bowl with half a cup of milk and heat for 60 seconds. Cooking it with milk seems to make it get less mushy than with water, and, IMO, it has a better taste too.

Thanks to everyone, especially LiftGirl who answered! My last final exam of the year is tomorrow evening and I will be easing into my routine on Thursday morning. I'm hoping I can get in some swimming or some lifting each morning before work. Thanks again
