Whey Protein/Soy Protein Info
I know a lot of people have different opinions of what to use and most prefer whey and still may after reading this just take this into account when deciding which protein to use.
General Soy Protein Facts:
1. It is reported to lower your cholesterol
A study done at the University of Kentucky concluded that of 38 trials, 34 reported a net decrease and 4 reported a net increase in serum cholesterol concentrations. The studies also showed that as little as 31 grams or less per day of soy protein contributed to lowering "bad" cholesterol is serum samples.
2. Consequently, this is how it lowers your chance of heart disease
3. Many studies have come to the conclusion that eating soyfoods(including soy protein) can lower your chance of contracting different types of cancers such as, prostate, breast and others. Genistein,a substance commonly found in soy products, can help supress growth of cancer cells. The same substance is also said to act as an antiestrogen and reduce levels of it.
Most of this information is based on the Lumen Book.

General Whey Protein Facts:
1. Whey is a protein composed of smaller protein subfractions: Beta-lactoglobulin, alpha-lactalbumin, immunoglobulins (IgGs), glycomacropeptides, bovine serum albumin (BSA) and minor peptides such as lactoperoxidases, lysozyme and lactoferrin
2. Studies have found that whey has the ability to, just as soy foods, to help in the fight against cancer, HIV, and immune deficiencies by raising levels of glutathione.
3. Whey can also reduce stress and lower cortisol, increase brain serotonin levels, for those of you who dont know what this molecule is, this is the neurotransmitter in your brain that allows you to feel any sort of pleasure and low amounts can contribute to depression and violent behavior.
4. It can improve liver function in those suffering from certain forms of hepatitis, reduce blood pressure, and improve performance, to name a few of its potential medical and sports related applications.
5. Ion-Exchange Isolate Whey Protein is created by taking a concentrate and running it through what is called an "ion exchange" column. The drawbacks to this is that many of the minor peptides that make up whey are removed in order to create more volume in the protein. On the other hand, Micro-Filtered Isolate Whey Protein "uses a low temperature micro filtration techniques that allows for the production of very high protein contents (>90%), the retention of important subfractions, extremely low fat and lactose contents, with virtually no undenatured proteins." You choose which one you want, but a smart choice would be with the micro-filtered whey because it simply has more subfractions needed to "build muscle".
6. Whey can also inhibit oxidized low density lipoprotein cholesterol, which is commonlu known as "Bad Cholesterol" although it is simply the transport molecule that can clog arteries and such.
7. Using test rats scientists found that whey lead to more strength in the bones of the rats, and the same can be concluded with humans.

So it all comes down to what you want in the end... both have their faults and although i am not very experienced at this in my opinion whey tastes a lot better buy soy may be healthier for many people.
I hope this helps some people that need information i know that i would have needed this when i first started, anyways, enjoy guys

Me neither but then again who knows soy protein is mainly for the lactose intollerant and is overall healthier, but i found another article leading way to preventing cancer... i will keep adding links in there when i have time.

Best of both worlds: Put whey powder in Soy milk.
Thats what I do, got the vanilla whey flavor with vanilla soy milk. It tastes pretty good.
Whats even better is throwing some vanilla soy milk, a couple scoops of whey powder, a bananna, a few strawberries into a blender. 20 seconds later and you have a cake, err shake, that tastes so good you think you're cheating!

This would be an ok idea except most people dislike soy protein and soy products because of the taste and thus using soy milk would not sound that good to them. I don't have soy milk so ill get some and maybe ill start doing this 2, however, i wont give up my cow juice, moooooo
By the way, if anyone else has any good links that i can add just post them and i will add to top of post.

I agree with you. I had been making my shakes with water, cuz I don't do cow milk. Recently I decided to try Soy milk in a whey protein shake, and it's so good that I'll probably never go back to water. It adds some thickness to the shake and it tastes good too.

Well I think regular soy milk tastes OK. But vanilla soy milk which has the exact same nutrional content, tastes great! With a little flavor, it goes a long way.

No after yet - I have gained about 8 lbs since that pic (I finally started gaining weight this month when i bumped up to 2800 calories), and look generally healthier but not much bigger (By healthier i mean, better skin color, no bags under eyes, etc..)
