For at least a decade my right shoulder has had a limited range of motion, coupled with audible popping and pain. I've finally done something about it -- I had surgery on it yesterday morning and am currently in the process of recuperating.
The surgery was done arthroscopically. Three incisions were made at different points on my right shoulder (front, side, and back) -- each about 1 centimeter long. A camera was inserted into one opening, while the other two are for instrument insertion. Once in, the surgeon cleaned out old scar tissue and bone spurs that formed as the result of past injuries (mostly from basketball). While the bursa sac was seriously inflamed (hence the discomfort), it had not ruptured (which would have meant more repair and a longer recovery).
I'm wearing a shoulder/chest wrap that circulates 43° water about the inflamed tissue to preclude (or at least reduce) the swelling. After 48 consecutive hours I can reduce the application to just 6 hours per day. After a 14 day stretch, I should be back in business. Obviously there'll be some progressive phyical therapy requred to get me to 100%.
Here is my very swollen and bruised shoulder:

Needless to say, I won't be doing any bench-pressing, flyes, or lateral raises anytime soon ...

look at it this way: goooood thing you were in such fine shape before the surgery - imagine the procedure and recovery had you been a typical schlep!
get well soon, cursor.
that's an order.

Hopefully the surgery having been done will make it even stronger when all is healed and good. Then, you'll be able to lift even more weight and defy the aging process even more so !
