500 meters on the Concept 2 rowing machine

In my effort to get some good non-running cardio workouts in, I have discovered the challenge and intensity of 500 meters on the Concept 2 rowing machine for time. I first learned of this while visiting Clarence Bass' website.

I might be getting hooked.

If you are challenged for time to get your cardio in, and you have gym access to a Concept 2 rowing machine, give the 500 meter timed trial a whirl. I guarantee you in 3 minutes or less that you will have all the cardio you need for the day.

There is a website where individuals post their times for various distances. In my age group, I would be about 225th on the listings out of over 400 who have posted. My best time is 1:42. There is some stud out of San Diego who has posted a 1:19 time.

Here is a link for anyone interested:

If you have access to a Concept 2 rowing machine, go spank yourself this weekend.

Guys, how do you produce intensity on the rowers? We have some at my gym, and I'd like to incorporate them, but I feel like it's too easy when I do it. Should I be trying to go faster maybe?

I have a love/hate relationship with the C2 rower. I love how you can get your butt kicked in 2 minutes flat, but I hate how badly I suck at it! lol

liftgirl, if you find it too easy then yes you should go faster. There is proper technique to rowing, it is almost like a deadlift. The legs and back should do most of the work, the arms as a finisher.

Your size plays a part in how good your C2 times will be, the bigger you are the faster you will be able to row as a rule. Therefore generally men are far better than women.

a sub-2 minute 500m is a great goal for a woman, one I have yet to achieve myself.

My best time to date I believe is 2:12

Thanks, MM, I'll give it a try again.
