Breathing

Does anyone else have difficulty breathing? I just went to try and work out just now, after not working out for about 5 weeks... I started with one set of 8 reps for a deadlift... completely out of breathe, breathing hard and heavy, my chest beating hard.. it doesnt feel like quality intake, like im sucking all the air into my belly instead of lungs, and my nose is just so plugged (not with boogers) I cant get air into my nose, so I have no choice but to suck down air through my mouth....

1 set and Im winded, badly, I went on to do a set of squats... 2nd rep I gave up... that was with bar only... no wieght... My breathing I can say is really gonna hinder getting back on track...

I feel like im in worse condition now that I was 2 years ago when I looked like jack from nightmare before christmas...

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Don't let the crossfitters hear that 8 reps on a deadlift has you winded...

By the way, most heavy lifters will tell you that sucking air into your belly as opposed to your lungs or chest is a good thing, it increases intra-abdominal pressure, the same reason some wear a weight belt.

I agree with maverick breathing into the belly is a good thing. Also 5 weeks off is too long to retain anything. The max you can go without a drop in strength or endurance is 2 weeks. My guess is that you might be starting out too heavy on the weights although I'm not sure? Keep it light and work your way back up. Also throw in some cardio (30min tops), your endurance in the gym will improve any you wont lose any muscle.

lol, as a crossfitter I am offended by anybody getting winded after 8 deadlifts!

kidding. Whenever I take time off, when I get back to gym I get winded faster. It will just take your body some time to re-adjust.

no... I have thought it too, and im sure asthma can occur at any time in your life too right? but only thing is, it just feels nasal and mouth related, and even more evidence supporting that is the fact my ears gush out brown liquid every morning, and my eyes are coated heavily with crud. It really dont feel related to my esophagus or lungs, but then again I could be wrong, and I think there are also different types of asthma so maybe theres a nasal related asthma...

If I ever get back into docs office I will make this primary concern thats for sure.

Thanks guys. dont hesitate to keep giving advice and comments and whatnot
