Hey,
Well, I guess it depends on your goals. You shouldn't train at your max heart rate all the time. You won't see much improvements. If you want to lose weight, I think you should train at 60%-70% of your maximum heart rate for at least 30 minutes.
I have a heart rate monitor so I can monitor my heart rate as I am excercising and adjust my workout accordingly.
You can work your heart too much, causing pulmonary strain, which is TERRIBLE for your heart, especially if you are not in any kind of shape. Even without diseases or defects, this can still cause major problems later on in your life. Be CAREFUL!
Never sustain your heart rate at its maximum rated beat, in fact it should never really get up that high. YOu need to be careful.
Anytime that you start a fitness program (particularly if 50-lbs overweight), you'll want to ramp up your intensity very gradually. Take you're time — there's plenty of time for intensity AFTER your body gets more accustomed to regular exercise sessions.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to get a full medical examination before starting. Get the doctor's OK.

Try telling that to the wrestling coaches. We are on our 4th mile and they are yelling run faster come on don't make us do extra sprint. Then some slow person screws up and has makes us run sprints. Is it good to have your heart beating so fast and hard that you get a chest ache?
