Question

Cardio everyday??

Hey everyone... i'm new to this website.. but i just had a question.. i've just recently started working out... and i've been doing atkins.. and i'm just a few pounds away from my goal weight!! anyway.. i've been doing a lot of cardio everyday... is that okay??? i've heard that you shouldn't work out everyday, but i don't know if that only applies to weight lifting...

i usually walk/jog on the treadmill twice a day, and go on the elliptical machine at least once a day...is that okay??

It applies to everything. You should take one day off a week from formal exercise of any kind.

Recreational type walking or activites should not interfere with a rest day. You want to give your body (central nervious system) a break. There are important tissue building activites that go on in your body when you rest. The other thing is that too much of a good thing like exercise can end up becoming stress along with negative consequences.

i'm sorry..i think i'm reading your msg wrong..i can't tell if you're saying that recreational walking and activities shoudln't interfere with a rest day as in i shouldn't do them, or that it's okay to do them cuz it doesn't affect my rest day...

i just go on the treadmill everyday...

Walking is not high stress enough to warrant a rest day, IMO.

Most people dont even know what is high stress when it comes to cardio. For most people they are never stressing their bodies to a point where i believe rest is indeed needed. Your body will tell you if it requires rest. aching or tiredness is major signs of this. I have been back into my cardio training for just under 1 month now and train for 50 minutes about 3-4 times a week plus 4 weights workouts and feel completely fine. Even when i used to train for 1 hours worth of intense cardio (160-180+ BPM) 6-7 days a week i always felt fine. I guess some of this could be down to age.
