Deviated Septum

On Monday I am having a septoplasty to correct my deviated septum. Has anyone here had this surgery before? What should I expect? How soon after will I be able to work out again? What changes will be able to notice?

(Sorry mods if this is in the wrong section! I didn't know where else to post this question!)

I'm sorry to hear that even though I don't know what that is. So educate us unless it is private or unless I can google it and find out.

Keep us posted.

edit: now I know and I don't know what to tell you other than watch the contact in the dojo during the healing period.

Hi Pierini-

Turns out all those sinus infections I've been having are a result of a deviated septum. Not sure how it happened. The ENT informed me it can result from even slight contact. I am placing the blame for that slight contact on JDR3!

I had surgery for a bad deviated septum about 8 years ago. It was an out-patient surgery and they put a cast over my nose, with plastic splints and tubes inside my nose to help stabilize it and to help me breath better. The worst part about it is having to explain to people for a month later that you weren't in a fight. You'll probably have both eyes black and blue and there will be a fair amount of swelling.
Good luck bro.

Thanks for the info Gooseneck. I had my pre-op appointment on Friday. I asked my doctor about the plastic splints, he said they will use those on me. Apparently I won't be able to see them, but I will definitely feel them!

Yea, they're several inches long. You'll be fine, its not exactly a comfortable cake walk, but its not the end of the world either.

dude, I suggested this surgery to my doctor, or having my tonsils n Adenoids removed, and she seems to think theres no problem.

I sound like Fran Drescher (the Nanny) for crying out loud. I cannot or ever can I breathe through my nose, making it harder to live, mainge it harder to speak, making it harder sleep, making it harder breathe, making it harder to workout or do any kind of cardio!

I have the worse sinus problems, They are so bad, the sinus openings in my nose (which is the main passage you can see in the mirror) is never open, they are closed like dams, always... and my ears are really clogged up with ear wax every morning, my nose bleeds frequently, my eyes are always itchy and full of green poop... sometimes in the nite I wake up and go brush my teeth, and I always brush my tongue, but in the nite it gets slimmy, like my tongue is producing snot, and no matter how much I brush it, it will keep making this snot out of my tongue... no joke... I got it bad, I always have, and even worse in the past few years.

Let us know how your surgery goes homie. Im happy for ya, and jealous, haha
