Feeling dizzy while running
Tonight I went running. I had to use the tread mill at the gym that I go to because of the weather. This was the first time for me using it. Well about 1/2 hour into running I started to get a little dizzy and light headed. I stopped, got some water and walked around alittle bit. I started back on it again and still didn't feel right, so I unfortunatly stopped. I did notice that I was sweating more than normal, and that my mouth and throat where dry. Normally my mouth gets dry while running, but it seemed to happen sooner. Was the because of dehydration or something else?

.....okay, that's not something anybody can tell you, being as we weren't there to take blood pressure readings, etc.
checklist: - did you eat before you worked out? if not, you could've had a blood sugar drop, which is why you have to eat.
- were you breathing smoothly in through your nose and out through your mouth or were you gasping and heaving for air and thus, hyperventilating?
- did you keep yourself hydrated? carry a 500ml or 1l bottle around and make SURE you empty it to the tune of 2l or so a day - just sip when you feel thirsty.
- did you overexert and push yourself past your body's ability to manage? slow down and take it easy - you don't want any "berk of the month" medals for passing out on the treadmill and ending up embedded in the drywall.
- did you just suddenly stop dead after working out hard? NEVER do that - always take the speed down gradually, or your heart will freak out.
- have you had a checkup by your doctor to rule out medical problems and possible complications before you jumped into a heavy routine?
- how's your blood pressure? normal? too high? too low?

Yes I had an apple when I got home from work

In through the nose, out through the mouth

I have a large copy that I carry at work with water in it. I usually empty it a couple times.

I really didn't feel that I over exherted myself. I felt like I was running at my normal pace.

I brought it down slowly.
- have you had a checkup by your doctor to rule out medical problems and possible complications before you jumped into a heavy routine?
No, I can't go because I just started a new job a while back, and my insurance hasn't started. Once I get insurance I am going to go.
- how's your blood pressure? normal? too high? too low?
Unsure as to what my blood pressure is.

I don't know. I did like I normally do after work and before I work out. Maybe the heat of being inside was getting to me.

"an apple after work"!??? you call that EATING!?
no wonder you crapped out. next time, have an apple, a glass of milk, and a chicken breast on a split roll - you'll notice your athletic performance will be vastly improved. until you get a grip on your food issues, you will always be struggling with your athletic performance. trying to run any kind of distance on an apple for fuel has the same chance of success as trying to run a triton V8 by farting in the gas tank.

An apple? Insert a 7 oz chicken breast + a baked yam and a cup or two of green veggies and you can call that a meal. An apple wont fuel you through half a mile if you run with any intensity.

All very good advice. A bowl of oatmeal will suffice perfectly fine for a pre- workout meal as well.

I would suggest that being inside was the big difference. Maybe the temperature like you said was higher inside, and there were a bunch of other people in there working out and sucking up the oxygen too.
I wouldn't buy the food angle just yet as you have run before following the same pattern with no ill effects right?
I work from 11pm to 7 am and my meal is at 3 am...I OFTEN go for my interval training after I get home from work without eating...so I am not finished until about 8:30. My interval training consists of 30 second top speed sprints up a 20-25% grade with the walk down being the only recovery time and my minimum is 10 cycles. I also often go after I work overtime...which adds 2 hours to my shift yet I still don't eat until afterwards although I wouldn't recommend my somewhat haphazard eating patterns on those days to anyone.
Granted everyone's system is a little different but making the assumption that you have never had the problem before but followed the same basic pattern with the only difference being the location of your workout, then it was probably the location. I took my friend in to a facitlity where I used to work out and there happened to be a large swimming pool in the building...this guy had been in great shape and training hard for quite a while and should have been able to run a fair distance yet the humidity from the pool made him tank after about 15 minutes.
