Did you know Childhood obesity is growing at an alarming rate, with almost 13 percent of 6-11 year olds affected.? In our technology-driven society, with more gadgets to occupy our time on the couch, entertainment at our fingertips with a push of a button, and a cornucopia of fast foods readily available, we need to plan and stick to a family program of regular exercise and basic nutrition for our children and adults alike.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons would like for you to take a brief moment to take our quick and fun survey on weight training and fitness programs. Each respondent will receive a free gift from the Academy on completion of the survey. The results will be published in October

Please go to the following link to access the weight training, http://grassroots.aaos.org/surveys/60895.pdf.

Not only has technology taken over and provided us with conveniences, but we've been misguided as a nation. The American Heart Association told us 20 years ago to consume extremely low-fat, high-carb diets, in turn, making the nation fatter than before. I'm not dissing neither low-fat nor high-carbs, but some moderation in food consumption needs acknowledged. The problem was that we were told we could eat an unlimited amount of carbs and low-fat and still be healthy. Now, with pancreas producing insulin at an alarming rate, most of the nation is insulin resistant. Eating patterns start in childhood are are carried over into obese adulthood.
