Question

Fitness Routines or Weight Lifting?

Happy 4th Everyone:

I am a Male 23yrs old about 5'5" and 145lbs. I do little to no excurising, I usally start my day off (breakfast 8-9am) with 1-2 cups of coffee, (lunch 1-2pm) a deli sandwich (like turkey, ham or tuna) some chips and a coke, (dinner 6-7pm)usally something off the grill, being summer time, burger, chicken, or hot dogs and 1-2 beers, (snack 8-10pm) cheez itz or pretzels. Somedays I may get something differant, but thats normally what I eat.

I dont like my body and I want to change it. I would like to get my body more defined (get rid of "love handles", the "one pack", and "man boobies"), I was wondering can you get defined from drinking protein drinks and doing fitness routines (8min abs, push-ups, and running the track)? or would you need to go to a gym and strat lifting weights?

1) What would I need to do to get a defined body?
2) What must I have in my diet, and what should I stay away from?

Please help, thanks :

-Mike

1. Lift weights - heavy weights

2. eat: Lean proteins, Whole grains(oats, wheat etc), fruits, vegetables, good fats (oily fish, olive oil, nuts etc.)

stay away from: processed crap(pretzels, cheezits, chips!), sodas, beer, fast food

I dont think u need somebody to tell you that having 2cups of coffee as your breakfast is unhealthy!

There is a ton of valuable information here on the site, search, read and learn!

oh, btw I forgot to say that 145 is a perfectly respectable weight for your height - so just work on building up some muscle and the fat loss should follow through (of course, while keeping the diet clean : )

good luck with your goals

What he said. Although, a bodyweight fitness routine will be a whole lot better than nothing. The best workout is the one you actually do. Dietwise, if you could just cut out 2 things from your diet you would see a huge difference: no partially hydrogenated vegetable oil and no high fructose corn syrup. Read labels, and don't eat anything that has one of those two things in it.

As far as the diet changes go the other posts are right on! I think you could challenge yourself with a bodyweight fitness circuit or take up a martial art. That combined with putting in some work on planning your meals better would make some very positive changes in your physique.

You are lucky in that you are not overweight and don't need to deal with it. If you can manage it try a couple of scrambled or poached eggs at least in the morning. Also try to get your protein from better quality sources, not fast food. Grab one of those roasted grocery store BBQ chickens rather than always grilled dinners. Peel off the skin and trash it before eating it.
