Cool

For anyone going on holiday/vacation

I figured since many of you might be taking time off from the gym around this time of year that I should share my advice after a 10-day trip to Stockholm I recently took.

My advice is simple - forget about the diet and feel free to eat out at restaurants. Before I left, I was on a <2000kcal cutting diet with nearly a 1:1 ratio of protein to carbs. During the trip, I ate five meals a day, but a couple of meals most days would consist of hot dogs, pizza, Chinese or Indian.

To off-set this, I walked around town evey day and there's a lot of walking to be done in Stockholm (not as much as London, though). In addition, the flat I was staying in was on the fourth floor, and I always took the stairs. And on most days, I'd spend no more than five minutes doing gymnastic bodyweight exercises (the tuck planche is a new favourite of mine).

So when I got back, I weighed in at 3lbs heavier than when I left. But more significantly, my body fat actually went down according to my system of observing the ripples (or lack of) around my stomach when I sit down last thing at night.

So if you can leave a restaurant contented but without a bloated stomach, then, by all means, eat whatever you want and enjoy your trip. Incidentally, Sweden is generally a healthy nation, but their one weakness is their confectionery. They have the nicest sweets (or candy if you're a yank) in the world. :
