I've peeked at the posted link and wonder if this free piece of software might be actually useful for some DF members. Take a look yourself. A $35 buys you the right to use it professionally, in support of clients. It's otherwise a full-blown version.

I downloaded the software and it looks really nice. Nothing in the license agreement that puts adware or other nastys with the program. Only had time to skim over the install, but it looks like a nice tool.

Edit: Now that I've had a chance to look it over, it doesn't have great directions on how to use it. However, I like to be walked through using a program, so maybe that is my shortcoming. Perhaps there are better instuctions on using it on the web site?

I downloaded the program, and it looks nice. I have a question, however. As my goal, I put that I wanted to gain weight. At the bottom of that, it has the recommended calories per day. It told me 2,000 something. However, it told me my BMR was about 3400 or so. Does that mean I have to eat 2,000 calories on top of the 3400? That would be 5,400 calories, which is way too much.

How does that work?

That's what I'm trying to figure out, Chirs. Not sure if I'm doing things right....or if the program is making the right computations.

See if the hospital in your area has a DEXA machine. It looks like a catscan. But it also costs at least $100. So instead...

Call up your local hospital or university and see if they have a hydrostatic weigher (a dunk tank) for underwater weighing. A lot of places will do it for about $20.

Short of that you'll have to rely on skinfold calipers and some careful pinching. I hear biolelectrical impedance units are getting better but I still don't trust them.

I was interested by your comments on the DEXA machine... however a quick search tells me that a DEXA machine is used for measuring bone density.

How is this going to be helpful ?
