Fun run season

I entered my first fun run on July 4th and completed a 5-miler in 35:45. That's good for me.

So now I've made a business decision to enter these Thursday evening all-comer track meets at a local high school. These are for people of all ages and abilities.

I'm planning on running the 1,600 meter race next Thursday shooting for a 5:50 time. The following week I'll enter the 800 meter race. I have no idea what I'm capable of so I'll make a wild guess of 2:45. The final week will be the 400 meter race. Again, I'm not sure what I can do but if I did between 75 and 80 seconds I guess I'll be content. I don't have much experience at these distances. If I'm worth a grain of salt, I'll enter more than one event but the above distances will be my primary emphasis on those weeks.

I may get last place but I don't care. I'll definitely give it my 100% effort. May be a pukie who knows.

lol That reminds me of when I was running. Entered a 10k a few weeks after being off for 2 months while stress fractures healed in my lower leg. Wasn't quite ready for it as I was way out of shape but decided to go for it anyway. Got home and told my wife I came in 9th - best finish I've ever had and she was thrilled for me. Then I had to tell her that unfortunately, there were only 9 people in the race. God bless her, she said she didn't care. She liked the sound of me coming in 9th and nobody had to know any different.

Well I did get last place in the 1,600 meter race last Thursday. And my time of 6:14 failed to meet my goal of 5:50. My first 400 meters was in 1:20 which was too fast and I fell apart starting on lap 3. It was 104 degrees that day and air was extra dirty.

I also ran the 3,200 meter race completing it in 14:11. I was not last in that race.

So I'll try again next Thursday.

Nice job, pierini. 104 is damn near impossible to run in, much less meet some very diffuclt goals.

Gotta love the dirty air of California (NOT!!!). So grateful I don't have to deal with that every other day.

Maybe one of these days I'll understand the appeal of running. I just never in my whole life could find "joy" in such an activity. I guess it was always a forced event, a must-do,.....hard to love such a thing thrust upon you.

But gosh,...choosing to run. I'm searching my brain for the pleasure scenario here....

I'm with you Merrida, I never enjoyed running (still don't). But I fell into it with two guys I worked with and they made it fun and I even managed to keep it up for a year after I left that job. Injuries convinced me it was time to move on to something I actually enjoyed doing - which explains my love affair with iron for the past 10 years!
