good piont, although we should never substitute, are "main course" over labor choirs, we can always turn choirs into training, but it's our training that will enable us to enhance our choirs.

We should come to know that "workers" of old days were definatley stronger, but most didn't train, the ones who trained had longiviety, and healthy careers and trained until old age, the "modern society" who looked at exercise as "weirdo" "homo" activities developed physical problems, cause they didn't know how to stay functional with their jobs.

I enjoy getting up at 4:30 and working, it's great recovery, and I definatly have stronger workouts on these days then if I were to sleep in and not have a reason to force myself up in the morning, the physical aspect of it, (not sitting all day) helps my recovery good.

the functional training defination is differant for all levels, and it serves a purpose for longivity in weightlifting in general, see "wrist pain when benching" thread weeks ago, lots of responses for wraps and hiding the problem, suggestions of flexibilty and funtional training was looked at being "questioned" "assumming it MIGHT work" or "foolish", well, we will see who stays in the game for the longer haul I guess?

Of course if we are going for a certain ability level, particular look, or something more specific than just fitness - there has to be somethig specialized. Be it weights, X-fit, or whatever. But you are right, physical labor can be one heck of a good workout. Maybe that's why I feel so good in the fall and winter - splitting my wood, my neighbors wood, whatever other interesting thing like that I can find do do when it's not so hot.

Of course I'll not be doing heavy lifting in the morning, wood splitting in the afternoon, and tri-training in the evening on 1700 calories any more.

Remembrer when 3N was here and making good progress? She was doing lots of physical labor in addition to her PL training, wood splitting - moving stuff, some kind of lumber moving thing...

My recommended baseline functional fitness for society: be able to run up a flight of stairs without being winded when getting to the top, and be able to bend down and pick up a nickel without ripping the seat of your pants. Very demanding goals for some.

So true, the pioneers didn't have gyms, and the obesity rate was probably 0% or darn close.

But wasn't that from starvation? Now loggers - there's some boys that eat about 10,000 calories a day. And the ones I know aren't fat. But they work too darn hard.

I dunno....I read the Little House on the Prarie books, and they always had big meals.
