a little common sense goes a long way. that's messed up that people are being injured at the hands of a trainer, but i think it's everyone's own duty to educate yourselves, even just a little bit, to avoid such things. Or at least get some frickin credentials from the trainers, lol

That's a hard one. I can see where people need to be more aware, but most people hiring a PT for the first time are also a little nervous, and self consious. They pretty much do whatever they're told. If a trainer says "let's just start with this to see where you are". The person is generally going to think they should be able to do whatever he's asking since it's just a beginning point.

One of the first trainers I ever had was an idiot, but I knew that and I just stopped seeing him. He would not listen. Even though he knew I had a few years experience with weights. I'd tell him something was making me feel sick and he'd tell me to keep going.

I couldn't agree more. Just have some common sense, do a little research of your own and figure a little bit out about YOUR body and how it reacts to different things. If you do get a PT, make sure he/she is educated in the field(s) required and is backed by other credentials from nationally accreditted fitness sources.

That being said, I start work with a new PT next week. I'm very excited.
