heart rate.
my heart rate right now is too high, like around 85ish resting. even when i used to run 3 miles a week (which is nothing to many) i could never get it below 70-75
it also takes a lot of time to settle down. i think a lot of it is passed on from my family.. and their histoy of heart problems..
im really skinny so i've been trying to burn less calories and do some bulking lately. but i can see the effect on my heart. is there anything i can do thatll help out this problem without burning too many calories?
i mean.. thats pretty bad isnt it? i should be somewhat concerned
thanks,
nick

If you feel this is a condition passed on from your family, I feel your doctor should be the one you discuss this with.

Did you have your HR tested to see what it "should" be? The conventional way of
220 - your age doesn't work for everybody. Some people just have faster heart rates. The best thing to do to see if your heart is healthy is have it tested by a doctor.

yeah had it tested according to my age, wasnt very good.
it was sad to see how much it has decreased (or.. "increased") since i stopped most my cardio.
does running/swimming really burn a sufficient ammount of calories? or could i still be safe doing it now and then.. while still eating a lot.
ive kinda replaced it with snowboarding.. but that doesnt put too much strain on cardio.. atleast not as much as running/swimming like i used to.

That's for max heart rate, not for resting heart rate.
If you go to the doc they are just gonna tell you that it's within normal range (60-100).
I had a high rate too but losing weight and working out has lowered it substantially, and I don't think there's heart problems in my family per say.
Hmm, you COULD go and say you are in good shape and expect it to be lower. They should probably do an echocardiogram on you to make sure the structure is ok and stuff. Good luck to ya man.

You should be able in increase your cardio exercise and still be able to 'bulk'. Don't let this bodybuilding myth damage your health.

I agree with ya, it's all in the diet at that point.

Thanks for the info! I thought it applied to resting HR as well as Max HR. Good to know!

Just don't panic and think the worst. THat will drive you crazy. It's likely you are just fine.
I've been to cardiologists for a heart arrhythmia that is genetic, and have been scared sh*tless over it. All it does is make the symptoms worse, make your quality of life diminish, and make you uptight all the time.
Take it from me man. Go in, beg them to run basic tests on ya like that echocardiogram, an EKG, and wait for the results before you jump to conclusions. It's probably nothing they haven't seen a million times before.
Im only 26 yrs old man, way too young to worry about a heart problem. UGH

That is exactly my motivation to do cardio although I have good stats for my blood pressure and resting heart rate at the moment.
I don't want to lower my body fat so I keep the cardio training short(30 minutes) and I normally do interval training. The amount of improvement you can make is genetic but that does not mean that there is no benefit to training your heart. There are all kinds of good things that happen as a result at the vascular level to help with prevention. Cardio training for health benefits takes a leap of faith. Just trust the scientific information that it is good for you. You probably won't see the changes but if you get a stress test or vo2 max test you likely will.
