I read somewhere that pseudoephedrine and caffiene help your body metabolise fats when exercising. When doing cardio I usually do 40min on the cross trainer with a heart rate of about 170, after taking pseudoephedrine and caffine this morning my heart rate was only about 80 on the cross trainer, can anyone explain this to me? Is it counter productive? is it beneficial to do when you are doing weights before cardio?
Thanks

Before we go throwing a scare into you, I will suggest a possible mechanical malfunction. Sometimes the heart-rate monitor on the machines at my Y will go on the blink and give a weird rating. Often that happens if one of my hands is only partially gripping the palm monitor.
I'll do a 2 or 3 mile run and get a 115 HR. Huh? Then it starts to creep up to the expected level after I readjust my hands on the monitors.
I've never once had one of those things tell me I had a heart rate over 90, not matter how high I pumped the speed up. I probably just suck at using them though. Its funny though how they make some treadmills that can't even handle their top speeds. They had some older ones at my gym where if you cranked 'em up to 10 mph+ then they'd just fail on you and shut down.
So doing HIIT cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, after coffee and some ephedrine will help you burn fat? Heart attack is the first thing that comes to mind, possibly a stroke or two. If it is scientifically proven to work better than just an empty stomach with equal risks of just an empty stomach then I will give it a shot.
