"Bathing in cold water is not new - the Romans adopted the practice as a cure for stomach problems and headaches. It is believed to supercharge the system, improve breathing and muscle tone and decrease fatigue, and has also been claimed by some participants to improve thyroid function and skin tone, and aid constipation. Reports have also claimed that it is beneficial for ME sufferers as it boosts the hormonal immune system, and it is also claimed to help relieve painful periods. Other evidence illustrates its benefits as a performance enhancer. In addition to the physical benefits associated with cold water bathing, cold water is also known to stimulate the hypothalamus in the brain and the release of endorphins, which produce the 'feel-good factor'".

Thanks to this thread, I can't get myself to take hot showers!

Lol, but that's okay... I'll take cold showers if it'll help my muscles show more.

steam rooms are ok i believe since it just opens up pores and is healthy for the skin.

i still cant see how cold showers help promote fat loss.... logically,
i think since being in the cold increases heart rate to keep the body tempreture constant, thats what in the LONG run burns calories to reduce fat.

do i make sense?

HAHA!!

There are no bad effects from taking a hot shower. I highly doubt that water temperature has any major effects on health, etc. There are some apparent benefits to taking cold showers, but I am not sure how noticeable those benefits will become.

Personally, I usually start off with a hot showers, and at the end I turn the water to cold, and rinse on that for a bit. A hot/ cold transition shower like that is supposedly good for you too. Plus it makes it easier than jumping right into a cold shower.
