How do you deal?
How do you deal with the people at the fitness gyms that try to "educate" you on what you are doing and how they think what they are doing is right? I.e. Someone walks up to you and tells you that you're working out al wrong...

It all depends how huge are they? Seriously and are they a trainer or just someone. If it is just a regular person who is not to impressively built I just say thanks I think I know what I am doing and turn my headset up if it is someone huge/important I usually hear them out.

ehhhh cant agree there. I see "huge" guys working out wrong all the time cause their egos are bigger than their heads. for example if a guy is big he might just be like that fron genes and not be that strong. Big guys think they have to lift big, i saw a guy doing crazy weights on EZ bar curls but he was trowing his back so much into it i dont even think his arms would have felt the weight. Its makes me laugh. If someone says you are doing it wrong ask them why and tell them to explain it to you. Then come home either look up the exersice or post your Q here.

That's a pretty good response, asking them to explain WHY,....
Another very good yet non-committal way of replying is: You know, you might be right!

The main reason why I posted this is that the other day I was working out and I noticed a couple of the locals who utilize the bench more than others were cracking a a smaller guy who was working out...It so disgusted me I wanted to walk up to them and yank their earrings outta their ears...
If I see anyone working out, I respect them..they are taking a good step in the right direction...
I could also hear them cracking on the guys form and saying things like "oh he'll never get our size if he keeps that up" kind of deal....
it just gets so frustrating to hear people like that belittle everyone else..If I owned that gym, i would've asked them to leave

Yah, I hear ya. I'm the same way. In case it isn't self-evident, I'm a "rescuer" kind of person, who shoots for the underdog, cheers in their corner, and loves beating the odds in the face of the "winners" who get it all at the drop of a hat.
So just like you, my inside personality would love to slap some attitude adjustment on those guys so they remember they started out somewhere once as well.
But the "professional" or "realistic" side of me knows that it's futile, and that we all can say what we want, that this guy will either thrive despite adversity, thrive BECAUSE of adversity, or bail because he is embarassed.
We can't control the world, but I'm with you on this one,.... I'd sure love to try, despite the futility, to broaden a few minds (instead of foreheads).

I reackon its great that people want to offer advise, there should be more of it but its a touchy thing. With me if someone says that I should do such n such, I also ask them to explain why and take on all info and discard the crap, but "I read it in a book/mag" just ain't a good reason. Then I'll explain why I'm doing what I'm doing and expect them to listen.

When a coach tells me to do something I do it exactly like he says. But if he's wrong I do it the right way once he turns away.

Many times guys walk upto me and tell me my forms wrong, more often than not they are about 5ft nothing and weigh about 130lbs and are basically a walking skeleton, however not taking size to be a means of determining ones intelligence I just hear them out and thank them for their time and continue to do it how I always have done. If they approach me in a bad frame of mind with a real attitude I just tell them each to their own and put my headphones back on

When someone walks up to me while I'm working out and starts telling me what to do, I usually freak out on them because I work out in my basement... what the hell are they doing in my basement!?! Then I often chase them around with some nunchucks for a little bit of cardio, which usually stops them from lecturing for at least a few minutes. If they run upstairs, I go back to working out while my dog chews on them for a bit. If they run out the back door, well... I lock it behind them, and go back to working out. Who the hell do they think they are? Telling me how to use my own weights in my own basement? How the hell did they get in there anyway?! Damn circus midgets...

Why don't I miss having idiots approach me when I'm working out at home. Hmmm something to ponder
