Question

How do you guys do lat pulldown?

Hi Guys. I just came back from gym. I was wondering while working out... How do you guys do lat pulldown?? Ihave been using that machine for a wile, I know some people pull it in front of your face, some people pull it to back of your face. Some people pull it all the way down to chest or even farther. Is there any difference? What is the best way????

I do them like Dorian Yates did(does??) Palms facing you - hands about 12 inches apart - straight bar. Pull down as far as you can - hold for two seconds - control the bar up - all the way.

I do mine with my hands very far apart on the part of the typical pull down bar that angles down. My palms face away from me and I pull down to the top of my chest. Steve wouldn't doing chin ups do about the same thing for you?

I guess you're right, but that's how I do them...get a better range of movement, too.

I was talking to some of the big guys in the gym the other day, they told me to do it infront of my face, down to upper chest , palms facing ... apart from it does make a difference they also said that it can prevent injury ? as apposed to doing it behind the back where there is a greater risk of injury?

Seems those biggies know what they're saying, Lee. I totally agree with them. Pulldowns behind the neck can indeed cause injury. It's not a natural movement....I know some trainers who teach not to do them.

I do lat pulldowns all sorts of ways. I try to use a different grip every workout for back. My favorite is palms facing forward, arms out pretty wide and pulling the bar down to the chest, really making the elbows go directly behind me.

I love this exercise for the V-shape of the lats.

Dont pull to far down or you'll end up smashing your style.

Yeah,. or to where you feel comfortable by all means go as low as you can, most people pull t about shoulder height, the amount of weight they use only allows them to do this... that might help asa guide.
