How long should you wait to work out after being sick?
Growing up, if I ever got sick I remember my parrents getting on to me about playing outside. They said I would get overheated and get sick all over again.
How long should you wait before jumping back into running and lifting after being sick for about a week? Will getting overheated really get you sick all over again?

No. I always find that working out makes me feel a hell of a lot better when I'm sick. Just make sure to get your rest when you aren't exercising, drink lots of water, and take it easy overall.

Depends what you have, for me I'm usually too drained to do any real workouts, but then when I get sick I'm also usually too drained to sit on my ass in front of the computer too.
I say hit the gym as soon as you feel up to it though. If you have the energy, use it. Drink a lot, make sure you eat, get enough (maybe more than usual) rest, etc...like abarlament said, just the usual stuff.

I would keep working out. I've got a chest cold, well the end of one now, and working out has made me feel better. I've ran and lifted weights, but kept the intensity lower so as not to tire out my body too much.

Depends on the severity. Some strains of virus will worsen if you work out too intensely. Your immune system is depressed when you're ailing, so it stands to reason that anything that taxes the CNS could exacerbate your illness.
I wait until my symptoms are mostly gone. Then I ease back into it. A low-weight day or two to reacclimate my body to lifting.

As you write this millions of bacteria are infesting your lungs. Better knock on wood.
I have been sick for a 5 day period where i have made almost no attempt to workout because i was pretty sick, but yesterday as i was coming out of it i did some light bicep curls at 85 pds and squats at 175 and it made me feel tons better like abar said. Go ahead and workout. If you feel ok and you do not have a huge fever i dont see why not.
