How much is too much?

I play Varsity Ice Hockey for my school we practice 3-5 times a week on the ice and have 2 days a week of off ice conditioning for an hour and a half and wieght trainging inbetween sometimes(not to mention 2-3 games a weekend)..... I would like to bulk up and increase my upper body strength ... but I've heard that too much will reep no gains I need to lose like 10 -15 lbs and I am already losing alot of it just with hockey but I'm still not gaining a whole lot of upper body strength

I figured a couple of days a week after school I would come home and jump rope to warm up for a good 20 minutes and then stretch and get to using my free wieghts, hockey requires alot of endurance so would it necesarily be a bad thing for me to do more than just a couple of days? like 3 or 4 depending on what our off ice is like or would this be too much and merely negate any possible gains?

Well, I looked at the Navy Seal training routine, and it is pretty insane. If people can do that and bulk up I don't see why you can't as long as you eat right and make sure you get at least 1-2 days of rest. Still, lifting may make you a little beat and drop your performance during Hockey. One thing you may want to make sure of is tat you eat enough. All that work will require a lot of food, healthy food. Lean meats, maybe a weight gainer, and L-glutamine might help with muscle recovery since you will be working so often.
