How much running?

How far should I run in the mornings? I mean I could go out and jog 10 miles, it would suck but I could do it. I just don't really know how far I should go. Also can a stationary bike be used instead of running in the mornings?

The bike will be better, I think. Less stress on your joints.

If you are running for fat loss or cardio health then 30 to 40 minutes per day should be plenty. Intervals are really helpful too.

If you are running to get in good cardiovascular shape for football, why not run as much as you can?

I have to run because I need to have endurance for football and because Ironman said it was good. What are intervals? If there the same intervals my coaches make us run for punishment, I'm going to be sad. Finally, if I ran for as long as I could abar, it would quickly turn into an all day afair. I don't need that yet, thats what double-days are for. I have good endurance for a football player already (especially a lineman) because of track.

Pretty much like wind sprints. Short bursts of high intensity running (100 yards to 1/4 mile), then a few minutes of jogging to recover, then sprint again. I have a 1/4 mile slight incline that I do them on. By my forth time up the hill, I can literally feel the fat being zapped. And my lungs falling out.....

I gotcha, so, just sprint for like 100 yards, then jog the rest of the way back, then sprint 100 yards again? This sounds like a Ladder to me!

Hmmm..those ones are good! We use to do them when I was playing rugby. Killers, but really builds stamina. Every three weeks the coach took us 5km out on a truck and we had to jog back. He was a sticker for stamina and strength.
