I hate cardio
So today I trained first thing in the morning.
Have done it with weights many times before. Half a banana and some carb an protein shake 30mins before hand.
1 mile allout on threadmill
only managed 250m on rower legs too fatigued
managed a kilometre on strider
So soaking in sweat isnt this where the endorphins and well being kick in!
No its a run to the sink where I vomit every single bit of fluid i drank before and during the workout. First time i have ever vomited after a workout despite wanting to many times after squats
then to top it off the showers are freezing.
Surely there has to be something easier.

A visit from Pukie! Maybe it was "long time no see".
It is the body talking to you telling you that your cardiovascular system isn't capable of handling what you put it through. Means you need to train harder. Join the CrossFit club, start doing burpees, more running and sprinting, or better yet, hill sprints.
Take a lesson from Firehawk, just keep doing it. 30 minutes may not be enough time after consuming the calories you did. I'd try a banana and and 6-8 ounces of water if my window was only 30 minutes.
Keep the pedal to the metal young man! There's hope by the time you turn 50 if you keep at it.

Yes there is. For only $29.95 I'll send you the cardio chair! Have a great cardio workout without expending any energy whatsoever! Act now and I'll include, absolutely free, my new book on how to have great abs while consuming nothing but Hardee's Monster Thickburgers!!!
Sorry Max, I have to chime in because I hate cardio too. Gasping for breath isn't my idea of fun (and to think I used to go out and do LSD on Saturdays).
My advice is to break into it slower, Max. Build up to the point where you can work at 80% (or wherever you might have been) of your max heart rate without puking. It sucks but will eventually get better.
And no, the endorphin release ("runners high") is a myth. Kind of like when Arnold claimed in the movie Pumping Iron that the pump was better than cumming -- All BS in order to get people to exercise.

I think I will have to do what I dont want to and start on caffeine pills again in the morning it always settled my stomach when feeling nauseous with early morning weights.
Problem with crossfit from what I see and burpees as I have tried them is my knee is not strong enough for it the jumping etc puts too much pain through it. I would really like to do it though.
Thats a problem for running as well there is instability in my knee and it causes an uneasy run.

Serious question though is should i not be focusing on anaerobic exercises for endurance over sprints?

Yeah I worry though I wont progress at all like weights if I tell someone just towhat they are comfortable at they will never progress.
I think runners high might be similar to what someon who is been tortured night feel upon cessation its not a great feeling but such a relief and welcome for the removal of pain.

I think you'll get the most growth in cardiovascular improvement by spending time training in all heart rate training zones: 60-70% of max, 70-80% of max, and 80-90% of max, then later little burst of 90-95% of max.
I don't know if you have hills where you live but power walking up a hill can certainly elevate your HR quite nice. If you can't do burpees because of the jump, then do squat thrusts which are burpees without the jump.
Or use the Concept II rowing machine if you have access to one, or the elliptical trainer and set the resistance and incline both at 10-15 range.
While I don't have access to a trampoline, I have jumped on one and was totally impressed at what a great CV workout that would provide.
I personally like the efficiency of interval training. After a warmup, spend 1-2 minutes pedal to the metal with a similar or less duration of recovery, repeating for a total of 6-10 rounds depending on your fitness.
Work around your physical ailments and limitations. I do believe there are many CrossFit workouts you can modify and get one heck of a CV challenge. For example, today I did 30 reps of power clean & push presses for time using 135 lbs. Man did I get a good CV workout with that.
Keep the pedal to the metal. Pukie is really your friend, just keep him at a safe distance.

Crossfit is the way to go if you hate straight out CV training. Your CV endurance will improve and you won't even notice yourself training it.
We've been tossing around T-shirt slogans for the local CF affililate. The popular one so far is:
Crossfit
.....because running* is gay.
* insert your favourite target exercise (bodybuilding, rowing, swimming, yoga etc)
Damn I drank the koolaid!

Now Brat you must have known I would be responding to this one.
Interesting is how often many CrossFitters will skip 5k and 10k run WODs preferring to use the C2 rower instead.
Pick a better slogan!

This one also got tossed around:
Crossfit
.....because rowing is gay.
This guy (this years competition) is a firefighter who did his first strongman competition last year after training Crossfit only, last year. He won it.
The point to crossfit is to not be a specialist in one area of training but bring up fitness levels in all modes of training.

LSD = Long Slow Distance, my friend. I used to love doing a 12 to 14 miler on Saturday mornings before everyone in my household awoke. It was very peaceful and relaxing.
