I Need Some Advice, Please!
Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to read my little thread.
I've been on one or two fitness forums where no one seems to believe me. I guess my story is kinda... well, farfetched. That and I can type. Isn't it amazing, a 16 year old who doesn't talk like a moron, or need a spellchecker? Hehe!
Anyway, this is my story.
I live a very ... limited lifestyle. I'm not coming here to hear you tell me to call social services. Ugh. And I hope you dont think I'm just some random stranger eager to strike up some drama.
I really do need some advice.
You see, I'm 16 years old, 5'4", and 210 lbs. I really have a disgusting body.
I'm sick of being unhealthy, but there's so little I feel I can do in my situation.
My circumstances stand as such: I have trouble exercising because I've got joint problems and diseases (which obviously aren't being helped much by my being so heavy, come to think of it...) - I'm also kinda photosensitive - which means bright lights make me a bit ill. So I try to stay out of the sun. I've also got no money whatsoever to work with. I've been trying since I moved here to get a job but I live out in the boonies with nothing for miles, and my deadbeat father refuses to take me (or himself for that matter) anywhere. I had to drop out of school to work (even though I haven't been successful) because we're so low on money.
I also have trouble eating right because, as I said, I have absolutely no money to work with. My father doesn't work, and hasn't for years, and shamefully we're living off the government. How do I afford internet? Let's just say I collect AOL trial CD's...
We usually have no food in the house anyway, let alone any good food. I'm also rather picky, which does nothing to help the dang equation any.
I've got other various health issues too, and I feel completely trapped. Moving hurts, I hardly eat, and I'm really just sick of myself.
So I come here asking for advice. If you don't believe I'm real, ignore my thread. I've been through enough inquisition and rigorous questioning from people who think I've made this all up.
The advice I ask is: is there any way for me to feesably lose weight? I'm so gargantuan that I hate looking at myself in the mirror...
Any questions please post.
Thanks so much again.

at this point, you have two options: water work, or bodyweight exercises.
if you're near a lake or pool, go in the evening (wear lots of bug repellent or go after 10pm) and walk in waist-high water for 30 minutes four times a week.
otherwise, walk outside for the same.
needless to say, you keep your eating exactly the same - don't go eating more because you will be hungrier from the extra work.
do this for six weeks and evaluate your progress by checking against a pair of pants that are too tight. at this point, you can increase the time, add another day, or keep it the same and reduce calories by 500 per day.

A ton of lakes here, but none are safe... Walking I do try to do with my dogs, but it really hurts my knees and hips after awhile...
As far as calories go, I tend to eat little to nothing at all... And there isn't much I can do about it! AND on the *rare* occasion something does come into the house.. I have so much trouble controlling myself! Ugh!

i hear you on the knees and hips - i lived with that for years. it got so every time i tried to go up steps, it felt like a spike was being rammed straight through my kneecap.
never mind walking with the dogs unless they walk slowly. just walk by yourself at a moderately brisk pace - you're on your way to an appointment, but you're not late.
barefoot on grass helps.
why are the lakes not safe? if it's the bottom, wear shoes.
basic biology says that you ARE eating if you're not losing weight or are gaining weight. ipso facto, if you truly were eating little to nothing, you'd be losing weight. keep a food log for a week - measure and write down EVERYTHING you eat. only in this way can you see what you're atually eating, how many calories, and notice any trends such as night-time bingeing or stress eating.

Better eating habits and easing yourself into an exercise routine. As you become more adapted to exercise it should become easier on your body, but that may or not be the case given your health issues.
If you manage to get a GED or back into school there are colleges and programs out there to help people in your living situation. That's all I'll say there unless you are interested.

there comes a point in life when you have to stop relying on others and learn to depend on yourself.
i am, as of this moment, stuck babysitting five dogs and no vehicle. to get to the gym, it's a 1.5 hour walk to the highway, then i have to either hitch-hike or walk another 40k. not my idea of a party, but i've done it before and i'll do it again. i should mention i live in northeastern ontario, not a comfie geographic zone, and i've made similar trips in snowstorms.
other things i've done when i can't get to the gym include dragging a tire with a steel rim and a cinder block on top up and down a dirt road and using an F-150 4x4 (pushing it up and down a gravel driveway).
changing your body means changing your lifestyle. you'll have to move out of your comfort zone and learn new techniques and strategies. not comfortable at first, but the payoff is priceless.
