Tendonitis can be chronic. When I went through it, it really sucked because I couldn't do certain exercises for a very long time.
Three things to look for to help self diagnose tendonitis: - Tenderness directly over the tendon
- Pain with movement of muscles and tendons
- Swelling of the tendon
To fix it you need to: - Talk with your doctor (because I certainly am not one!)
- Rest the effected area (which sucks, because it means a layoff from your usual exercises).
- Ice to minimize inflammation and swelling
- Take NSAIDs (anti-inflammatory meds) such as Advil, Aleve, etc.
- Maybe even cortisone injections
It will eventually go away. Sucks about the pinched nerve, but like you said, be careful how you sleep.
If it has to be one or the other, hope it is tendonitis rather than arthritis.

(And, on the other hand -- depending on your lifestyle -- you can be much older than you want to be.)

Roger that. I'll still be pulling babes (or bugs) in even when I'm dead.

You guys are still young and so am I
As we grow older and less ambitious (I've been retired for 20 years) we have to use common sense to retain muscle mass and avoid injuries which will take longer to heal.
I recommend that you take Glucosamine Chondroitin (spelling?) for the joints. Also avoid heavy lifting as the elevated blood pressure can cause Glaucoma(pressure in the eyeballs). Also you might like to try superslow (up to 10 second contactions and extensions) with light dumbells with deep slow breathing. You'll really feel that you have had a workout.

That sounds more like the routine of a 70 year old, not a 40 or 50 year old.

I disagree. Incorporating super-slow training is just fine. I would not train exclusively with super-slow, but why do you perceive that as something reserved the for the septuagenarian crowd?

Actually it is the routine of this 75 year old that feels like 50. You have to use some common sense if you don't want to be a basket case as some of the pro bodybuilders are. In any case that was a suggestion to Jaster as to how to deal with his present condition.
here is the test for aging;
At 70 you forget to close your fly.
At 80 you forget to open it!
At 90 not much works and what does leaks!!

So that must mean that your fly is half-opened or half-closed, depending on how you look at it.
I can live with that forecast as long as I am not crapping my pants.

Only at informal occasions.
"I can live with that forecast as long as I am not crapping my pants."
Wear your pants backwards to save time in emergencies.

Heavy ([relatively] challenging) lifting is not a question of age, so much as it is a question of ability. And, ability is something that is intentionally developed. Insisting that age [alone] determines resistance training technique is a sure road to a premature grave.

Unfortunately biological age affects the ability to move more weight safely. Not recognizing this is a sure road to premature injury. "Relatively" is an intelligent choice. As far as technique is concerned it's everybodies choice.
