interval training and pilates

I am keen to try pilates and was wondering if anyone has tried it themselves and if it has made a difference to their core/stomach muscles especially after pregnancy.

Also can someone recommend a good interval training workout to incorporate on the treadmill or bike as I am confused as to the different types on the internet ie. run 60 rest 60 seconds and then another one says run 20 rest 60 seconds as I read somewhere your rest period should be the same or longer as your fast part and also 20 seconds doesn't seem very long. Also how long do I do the interval for. Is 20 minutes enough?

Thank u

it doesnt really matter.

im guessing you might be new to this, so generally I would start off doing 30 seconds high intensity, then 60 slow resting intensity. no matter if its 30/30 or 30/60 or 60/60 or 90/60 theyre all intervals, you will be able to increase it as you get better, if you even need to increase it, you may be fine sticking where you are at with the 30/60.

I would warm up with a good 5 minute slow-medium pace, then start your intervals, do as many rounds as you can really... try to aim for 7 rounds which would at least get you 10 minutes worth of intervals, and just like your fast/slow ratios, you can add more rounds of intervals as you get better.... after your done, cool down with a 5 minute slow jog or even walk.

This is just how I was taught to do it, which is pretty consistent to how everyone else does, or has started there intense interval training.

good luck

OK thanks. I did it the other night at 60/60 but the 60 was at 13 kph I imagine and i'd say I was ready to burst at the 45 second mark so should I drop the speed to last the 60 secs or keep it at this for say 40 secs. I only managed 4 times but this was after 30 mins spin class so am sure I could maybe manage 7 or so.

Yeah I think so. If you are doing HIIT you do not need to do spinning on the same day.

Oops I missed ten minutes of the spin class so that was the only reason why I tried it at the end.

HIIT is difficult work and best done on it's own day.
