Is it weird for guys to use the stairstepper?
I'm a newbie to this site and have a question that my sound rather odd.
I like to use the stair stepper at home as part of my cardio routine because is seems to work well for me. But when I go to the gym at the college I go to, all I ever see is women on the stair steppers. Is it unusual for a guy to use the stair stepper?

No, they're great for cardio. Just take it as a sign that there are a buncha wussy guys who wont get their cardio done at your gym
That or the women think its going to tone their ass and thighs up when it really probably wont if they don't work with any resistance training...

Not weird at all especially if you're not hanging onto the sides for dear life. Most of the people on the stairmaster aren't getting the kick ass workout they could be!

anewtater, welcome to this site and don't worry about what anyone thinks. This is exactly how I feel when I have to use the squat bar, and there are 5 guys standing around it, who have forgotten to take their 500 pounds off the bar (I use just the bar), and it breaks my momentum and concentration. I have considered even going out and buying a bar to do the exercises at home!
It's very awkward whenever you add something new to your routine, and you feel like everyone is watching, when actually they are probably in their own little world anyway. Your results will speak more than anything else. And by the way, at the gym where I go, lots of guys use the stair stepper. Good luck stepping out of your comfort zone.

At the gym I go to the stairmaster is used by just as many men as women. Same for all of the cardio equipment.
BTW, definately don't worry about what anyone else there thinks. I was concerned about it when I first started going to the gym. After a few times there I figured out that I was the only one worried about what I was doing, everyone else was worried about what they were doing.

It is not weird, but I do see more men doing the Stairmill (which I find to be 100% more effective a workout than the Stairmaster).
