is Swimming a good running replacement?


When summer comes, can i just swim instead of run. i usally run 2 mile tuesday and thursdays while doing 50 crunches every 1/8 of the mile and rest for 30 second after the doing those crunches.

Yep, swimming is a good form of exercise.

Swimming is a great CV exercise. However, note that improvements in your swimming may not necessarily translate back to improvements in your running when you go back.

Swimming is an excellent choice. Works the total body and is easy on the joints (no impact). Only thing is that you will not reap the benefits of added bone density that you would get from running due to swimming is a non-weight bearing activity.

i would say i prefer to swimming to running as CV training. i think it just gets me in better overall shape. however, the others have posted several negetive points about it.

Of course there's no reason to limit yourself to just one form of cardiovascular exercise for the summer: why not swim AND run and maybe even cycle/row/ski, whatever??
