jogging with weights all over me?

ok, im not high or anything, im thinking of strapping myself with weights and jogging, thought id work out my muscles at the same time as jogging, id wear a swaet shirt and pants over them, they would be the small sand filled ones that you strap on...

I tried that years ago with ankle weights and all they do is slide around your ankles and make your skin sore. Also, using handheld weights will make you move differently and you might pull a muscle in your shoulder or somewhere else. When running you should not use any extra weights. I agree with NateDogg - lift weights if you want to build.

Jomo, you could try this -

"Power Walking or Weighted Walking (3-5 mph) -

with weights on the hands, wrists, trunk or waist. Weighted workouts increase the intensity of the workout, calorie burn rate and provide upper body toning with the hand or wrist weights, at the expense of increased strain on the joints."

Running with weights might injure you....unless you tie a tractor tyre with a piece of rope around you waist and pull it while running....IF you CAN run with all that weight behind you. You might start out with a bicycle tyre....and then a car tyre....etc.

When I used to play rugby at school, the coach made us run with tyres...builds extreme stamina and strength. Of course , these were not those HUGE tyres!

Hope this helps

Steve

re: jogging with weights all over me?

Hey,
I always jog with 5lb. dumbells in each hand (of course); they add resistance which is very helpful if you're going up-hills, helping to strenghten your gluts, thighs, etc. I've never had a problem. Although you should always consult a physician before adding any 'challenge' to your routine.
